When the e30's first started rolling off the assembly line I was so sick to death of the e21 that I just fell in love.
I worked at BMW AG and NA during the chassis redesign.
In my opinion the best BMW ever built (so far) is the 1989 to 1991 e30 chassis (with emphasis on the m42 powered IS)
What made you want an E30????

I fell for them when my friend picked one up after HS. I loved the whole package but I was scared of the expensive maintenance he was having to do. I was only 18 and had little money. I stuck with Nissan's for 10 more years. Then one day another friend of mine picked up a vert he wanted to modify as a 3rd car. I needed a car and I rescued it from him. Started working on them and have only had BMW's since. I wish I would have known that they were pretty easy and cheap to work on.Leave a comment:

I wasn't looking for a BMW when I bought my first one, I bought it from a girl that always came into the video store I worked at. I needed a new car, and she told me she was selling her BMW. As soon as I saw it, I was in love with E30's. I bought it 2 weeks later, and that was 7 years ago.Leave a comment:

Well, the '84 533i wasn't passing smog and I needed a car NOW!-I was getting married and buying a house (at the same time, no $$) so I found the mint '88 325is for $1600 and told the guy "Sold!"
I had never driven a 3-series of any kind, and I liked it a lot during the test drive. Now, 2 years and 30k miles later, it's getting an s52 upgrade soon.
It now has 231,xxx, I bought it at 203k, not too worried about the mileage (Well, maybe a little)
These things are awesome and bulletproof!.Leave a comment:

I am an 80's baby and growing up all the ballers drove BMW's. Growing up in California all the pimps had the drop tops with all the hot women.
Now that I am older and a car lover, the E30 have the sickest old school look that can contend with these new cars. Sick ass car that stands out amongst the crowd.
I alway wanted one throughout college and now that i finished last year I picked one up an month after I graduated. (One of the greatest lessons I learn in college).
Watching "Paid In Full", and one part on "Menace II Society" made me go cope one.
Sick ass treadLeave a comment:

Well, my brother ZMBlueDevil made me. He didn't like the fact i was into Honda's so he sold me his.
Nice car, quite different than what i'm used to. The german engineering/styling has really grown on me. I think my next ride will be an E34 touring. I'll always have a soft spot for my CRX, though.Leave a comment:

I got it to replace my 2002 as a DD. I had a 87 325is first - then a 90 325i and finally a 90 325is. I sold my 85 735i euro and my 75 2002 for my first e30.Leave a comment:

Back when I lived in Russia, we had a Lada 1200. It, too, was boxy and had round headlights. I guess I've been attracted to that shape since then.Leave a comment:

I fell into it. I wasn't looking for a BMW. A buddy got a 88 IX cheap and did most of the mechanical work and sold it to me cheap and I finished doing the work. Great road trip car. Then some b***h pulled in front of me and pushed the front end back a couple feet.Leave a comment:

It was my first car, didn't really want a "old" bmw per se once I started driving it though I loved it. I have not own another car made by another manufacture.Leave a comment:

Very easy and fun to mod (can have some individuality), classic BMW looks, Easy to work on, Pretty cheap to buy and maintain, and of course they handle quite nicely.Leave a comment:

My dad always had one or two kicking around when I was growing up, it was a given I'd end up getting one as well.Leave a comment:

It was my first car I ever bought, back in HS. My neighbour had it parked outside for a couple months, didn't want it, and was going to donate for a tax writeoff (it was in really bad shape back then). So I payed him $1000 for it, and, well, the rest is history.
2nd one popped up on local CL and Joe Funk clued me in to it. I popped over to check it out, turns out it was my old GF's neighbor. So he lopped a bunch off the price because he knew me, sorta.Leave a comment:
