I buy it locally, and it's sold under the brand name "KantLeak". I think it's just ordinary Weldwood-style contact adhesive that's been repackaged. -
What sort of contact cement is used to hold the front edge of the top down? Mine is pulling up a bit at the corners, I'd like to fix it when I replace the front seal.Leave a comment:

You can isolate the source by removing the fan belts (one at a time).Leave a comment:

The whining is most likely a bearing like most people have already said, if it's when the A/c is on, it's the a/c, if it's when you turn the wheel, p/s pump, if it's sitting, water pump or alternator. It could be more complicated but that's the gist of it.Leave a comment:

:rofl:True.. Maybe I should just show up at his door shaking, crying, and all sweaty, throw up on his shoes and tell him that he just ruined my children's college fund. That I was banking on the car being in excellent condition, so that I could cash out on it's "classic car" status in a few years. I can't imagine him turning me down for that..
I can hook you up with detailed top replacement instructions if you decide to tackle it yourself. It's a fairly easy replacement.Leave a comment:

Get a hardtop and be done with it. Cheaper than a cloth top and drastically better.Leave a comment:

dude..... I was completely kidding about the above comment.. I was being sarcastic, I don't even have kids. I'm just going to get a new top, maybe replace the back seat some day, and enjoy it.
You seem to be looking at E30's in the wrong way. There are many other cars that would make good investments, E30's are cheap old cars that are loads of fun to modify and drive. If you are looking for an investment and want to sell the car later on and make enough for your child's tuition, look elsewhere. A leaky top isn't the end of the world, it's a shame, it will cost a good amount of money to fix, but not something to get bent out of shape about. Just fix what needs to be fixed and enjoy the car.Leave a comment:

Mine (in the sig) was advertised as mint. Didn't pick it up in person..
1. Slight rust
2. Rear window was useless (albiet not cracked)
3. Would rain as much inside the car as outside with the top up
4. Lied about timing belt recoreds (it's an m40..)
5. One of the front calipers was holding with 1 screw and the other half way in
6. Missing a bunch of small trim and crap.
I got pissed. smoke a cigarrette, and fixed it all in a month.
Feel free to im me with cabrio specifics.
