Well, resale is definitely not my #1 concern. Getting what I paid for is. The car just has so many things that were not disclosed in the picture. I guess the biggest issue was that he said the top was in great shape, and there were no tears in the upholstery. The top needs to be replaced, and the upholstry has major cracks, and a 2 inch HOLE in top of the passenger seat. We aren't talking a stich split, but a hole. I know it's my fault for not having a PPI done, but I asked for detailed pics, all the trouble spots, and I got something with a bunch of issues that weren't disclosed.
Should I just shut up and drive it? Or pursue him for a credit of some sort. He stated on the title that the odometer was working, I don't know if I have some sort of pull with that.. The thing is I paid a price that reflected an e30 in excellent condition, not one in fair. But maybe I dug my own grave.

Cabbys are about 300ish pounds heavier than a coupe.
Stock for stock, a 325i/is will easily walk away from a 318i/is in a straight line.
If resale value is your #1 concern, don't so anything except clean adn fix basic shit like a foggy top and the odometer.
If you want it to go like stink, do an M30. I am talking breaking 100MPH in a hurry, tire shredding big ass burnouts, plenty of power to roll from 10MPH to 100MPH in 4th gear, torque for days...M30 cabby FTW!Leave a comment:

325s are quicker overall, but I wouldn't say "DRASTICALLY."(not enough to go through trading). IMO the gas mileage and extra tossability make up for the lack of power.
Most people do 24v swaps if they want speed comparable to more modern cars, anyway. You'll have plenty of fun with the car after doing some suspension mods and seeing the potential it has.

Well day 2 has passed.. and the car is very cool. Runs superbly. You all weren't kidding about it being slow before 3k rpm.. Is the 325i DRASTICALLY quicker off the line? I may end up selling it sooner than later and pickup a 325ic if one comes up in a color other than red. Or just enjoy this one, and bask in the wonderful gas mileage..Leave a comment:

My last M42 didn't have wheel bearings.
Maybe that's why the timming chain was wrapped around the bottom timing pulley.Leave a comment:

Is the whining sound, like a "wa-wa-wa" sound? Those are usually wheel bearings if thats the case.Leave a comment:

Well said. Plus, it's a 318iC. There weren't many built for the US...have fun with it.Isn't it awesome though???
You buy an e30 and suddenly your life is so great...
Within hours you start thinking of timing belt, squeaky doors, windshield pitting, and every little detail that irritates you, and you only.
It's an e30, love it, and everything will fix itself.Leave a comment:

Your all right.. I think it's just a bit of paranoia. Beyond all those issues, the car seems to run flawlessly. I'll stop now. :-? Pics of the center of the wheel coming soon.
Odometer = who cares, get a different cluster or fix it yourself
Foggy window = welcome to the wonderful world of cabrio ownership. Why do you think we all either own or want a hardtop? :) Google convertible top window cleaning, there are some good write-ups out there.
Whining = was the A/C on? It's probably minor.
Tim
PS Send me a pic of the center of your wheels. :)Leave a comment:
