Fewer models might be a good thing though, even if it meant the removal of the (x6 what the fuck is that) and the x3. I think they should refocus what they do best, the 3 series and their high end product line. Not trying to offer a car for everyone.

Just like honda is doing, removing nsx (was under developement) and the s2000 and focussing on what they do best, the civic and accord.
This is a very good point!

I believe, like I'm sure many do, that BMW has gone soft. They try to be everything to everyone now with things like the X6, X3, etc. They have poor execution of a 'supercar' they call the M1 Homage. They have been diluting the ///M Motorsport division for years by slapping badges on every second model in their lineup. They have been sourcing cheaper and cheaper materials to offset their margins while returning a lower quality to the consumer and so on. I won't even get into my rant about their stying now.

Then take a company that has been nipping at their heels. This company creates a real supercar, wins 24 LeMans - with a diesel, Wins multiple awards for design, safety, etc. Has a solid lineup. I know who I would be considering if I was in the market for a new, premium automobile - and it wouldn't be BMW.

One thing I don't get really:
1L of regular 95 gas costs about 3USD
1L of diesel fual cousts about the same

BMW's diesels don't get much better mpg than gasoline ones - why people choose diesels??
Seriously? They're pushing mid 30's mpg - what petrol sipping BMW gets that??

edit: that's not even counting the bone crushing neck snapping tractor pulling torque :)

Right, nothing to do with our "cracking" process in the US.

Most likely what will end up happening is we will see a price drop in the lower range of their 1,3, and 5 models. The top end will stay the same but overall production numbers will be smaller for the top end. People buying the top end 5,6,7's aren't worried about the cost itself for those cars, but there will be fewer buying them.

I think the falls in sales for bmw would actually be a good thing, and if it becomes worse enough that thier "big engine" cars becomes an issue to sell we might be able to see some of thier euro counter parts reaching USA.

this is blasphemy, you are american, you think 4.4L v8 is big or a 3.2L 6 is big????? Then you need to have you car guy card rescinded and move to france.

doubt it.. it will take months to get those euro cars safety tested. i doubt bmw will switch sales strategy like that. remember that they don't import those cars here because their analysis (most likely correct) that those models will not sell well over here. i don't see this as a good thing because for such a dire situation to arise will have meant that we collectively are in the crapper even deeper than we thought.

    Whats everyone's thought?

would part prices drop or increase?
Will they start to fire sale thier fleet if inventories dont move?
Working...
