    Oh well at least i got a spare one. I paid only $140 CDN for it. Originally i was only going to use it at the track but now i'm lazy to take it out.

    looks like part number 33211226901 covers everything except the 316

    Yeah, the ABS axle shafts are the same between the 325i, M42 318i/s, and M3.

    The flange-to-flange distance between diffs is definitely the same. However the small case diff has more distance to make up so the axles flanges are longer to account for the narrower case.

    I'm 99% positive that the axleshafts on the at least the 318is are exactly the same as the M20 cars.

    same reason they offer two types of axelshafts... 325i/m3/324td gets the bling heavy duty stuff, 316-320 gets the weaksauce driveline..I could be wrong but I don't thing the overall lenght changes, just the beefyness of the part.

    Hm. I didn't realize there's THAT much play in the axles. Why would BMW offer two different diff output flange widths if it didn't make a difference?

    axle shafts have a slip joint that allows enough play to fit either diff
