Holy shit, the m52 pistons stick out THAT much more?! Nm, I'll figure something else out if I go with the aluminum block.

Actually it'll be half that (my mistake), but still. m52 is 84mm stroke with 135mm rods. If you increase only the stroke to 89.6, you'll raise the pistons half off the added stroke at TDC, which would be 2.8mm (not 5.6) above the deck. You MIGHT be able to get them machined way down with high compression, but I wouldn't recommend it. m54b30 pistons is where it's at, unless you go custom.

You can get custom thickness MLS headgaskets for $20 over what the standard ones cost. You can get a really thin one, but make sure you clay your pistons or something to check valve clearance. Otherwise, you'll be at 9.5:1 CR with m54 pistons and stock thickness headgasket, just FYI

If I can find the motor I want, then I'll use an s52 crank and rods, and m52 pistons. I'll have to see what deck height and what size head gasket that I'll have to run. I'd like to be able to run a bit higher compression than a factory s50/2, but we'll see

Boring out the aluminum blocks is tricky. Almost all of them are 84mm and cannot be bored. The only ones that might work are n52, which have iron sleeves. I believe the only aluminum m52 blocks are nikasil which cannot be honed or bored.
