Thanks! I'm up north a bit In the Napa valley. The weather is a bit cooler and the people a little snobbier haha!
I'm not quite sure yet. My next steps would be to flock the dash, so I may just flock the center console as well. If not, I might just remove the vinyl from the center console and go for a smoothed out look, or just find another vinyl to replace the old one. Anyone have any ideas?
Thank you, sir!
Thank you! If you see me or my car say hello! I don't bite! haha
I'm sure all of us e30 guys will be in their own section of the lot.

I like the cup holder idea, but how do you plan to match the factory texture?Leave a comment:

I just bookmarked this page. I have one of those wire cupholers but I hate it and have been looking for a way to do what you did here.
Also I grew up in SJ! Represent!Leave a comment:

Hello! White late model coupe from the bay
So this happened today...
Rolled into the parking lot of my internship with enough angle and noticed there weren't any parking spaces available. It's right off a busy 4 lane road and has quite a dip in the driveway. I decided rather than waiting who knows how long for someone to leave, I would park on a street nearby. As I was exiting there was someone behind me, and another car pulling in so I had no choice but to scrape. If I angle it I usually just scrape a little with the lip.
Head on was a bad idea... But I didn't really have a choice. I heard a few crunches running it over. Looking in my rear view I saw it lying in the road... Fuuhhhhhhhh
I turned the corner and parked across the road. Had to run into the middle of the road, grab it, and took it back to the car. But hey, I wasn't late!
I bought this lip last week :'(
I've sunken to a new level... Now I'm like the drift kids! Lol
It'll do for now. Kept the German flag color scheme going too!

Thanks guys! I'll probably go back in the first post and add more details as time goes by. Once it reached 2k words I decided I was done... hahaLeave a comment:

What's up man! How you been? Yeah I decided to finally make a thread. She's a little work in progress but slowly getting there! I was gonna go the style 5 route but these rs's popped up so I had to get them! I should have kept them, but being that it's so hard to find adapters I decided to make my money back and put that to use on something else. You going to the Treasure Island meet on the 7th!?Leave a comment:

Hello! White late model coupe from the bay
Thanks for the replies, guys! The cup holders aren't made of wood, but the construction is mainly pvc, epoxy, and bondo to finish it off. I still have to add some kind of texture to make it match the rest of the center console and paint it as well. I might as well do a mini write up right here!
Bare with me, I'm writing this on my phone :D
What you need:
Epoxy
3-4 inch pvc (don't remember what I used but use your best judgment)
Bondo
Some form of sub straight for the bottom of the cup holders
Cutting tools (dremel and some form of saw)
Patience
Remove center console and pull off the Vinyl that's on it
First, cut the pvc pipe to depths lower than your center console, remember you need enough room for the bottom panel of your cup holders. Sand the edges and make sure everything is straight and true

Make note of where you want the cup holders to be located and mark the spots. Start cutting with a dremel to make room for the pvc pipe.

Epoxy both pvc pipes together on a level surface and use a clamp to ensure its tight. Don't be afraid to go heavy with the epoxy as it adds strength

Once you've cut out the spot for the cupholders, place the PVC pipe inside to test fit. If it doesn't fit, cut or file away what's keeping it from being a clean fit. It should be snug, but not deforming the center console. Once you've fit it together, take it out to your car to ensure it isn't obstructed by your seat or seatbelt clip.

Once you know it fits, epoxy the PVC to the center console in as many places as you can. Make sure the top of the console is level and nothing is poking out higher or lower than it should. I recommend making the first adhesion with both the console and PVC on a level surface. I ended up adding supports by using small wooden dowels to fill the gap underneath and add securing points. Once again, don't be frugal with your epoxy on the inside of the console, nobody will see if anyway and I would rather you not spill your big gulp or PSL all over your girlfriends leggings and blame me for it.
Sorry no pics for this part, but i think I covered it well enough.
I decided to fill the openings on top with scrap blocks that I secured with epoxy and a hard spray foam to seal up all the empty spots. You don't have to do this and can use some other tactic to fill in the openings, but this was my method with what I had.
After that, you want to ensure the top surface is level and sand down any uneven or projecting pieces.
Use your (plastic board, or whatever else you have) and cut it to the same size as the PVC, then epoxy those onto the bottom.
Sorry no pics here either, just make sure to have a nice seal so if you spill anything, it won't leak through.
Layer by layer, add bondo to build up some shape. Use thin layers to ensure its drying well and that you can manipulate it with ease. I decided to go with a more streamline look and extenuated the curves to make it visually pleasing. Sand down the bondo to create whatever shape you like!

If all goes well, you should end up with something like this! Just needs to be painted or whatever else you'd like (flocking, vinyl wrap, or whatever you please)

Keep in mind this is when my interior was ugly, so don't judge haha! Also, it has been brought to my attention that the bondo "won't last a few months". Ive had these now for 3+ months with no signs of wear, cracking, etc. but if you'd like a stronger version, cover it with fiberglass and fiberglass resin. I believe the bondo will be fine, and I'll make sure to let you all know if it fails but as of right now I'm sure it'll last at least a few years. Remember, the key is the strength in the structure. Use the epoxy and build to support it, not the bondo.
Woohoo! My first writeup!Last edited by Toodaloo; 04-04-2016, 08:32 PM.Leave a comment:
