I think one or more of the fuel injectors may be stuck open because when I ran the car before I could smell gas and when I lifted them up to replace the coolant sensor for the ECU and replace the gasket on the sensor/thermostat housing a bunch of fuel squirted out. So I ordered new ones. They're the new design. Bosch 62415. These are the correct ones for the M20. They were about $35 each from RockAuto. I found cheaper remanufactured ones on eBay, but those are for the M50 and I read if you use those then the OBC and MPG gauge won't work quite right.

Another thing I did was order some new headlights. I want something better than the sealed beams. I'd love to get the 5.75" Nolden LED headlights (I got the 7" version for the Defender), but at 424 EUR each I think that's more than I want to spend on headlights. So I decided to get some improved halogens for now. The Euro smileys look great, but I've also read a lot of people aren't that impressed with their performance. So I was going to get some Cibie H4s. But then I ran across the Hella Bi-Focus H1s which look like a better option, so I ordered those. Came out to about $169 shipped for a pair of low beams and high beams, & 4 bulbs from Amazon.

    Low beams: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B005OUM0RM/..._vE4rCb749V5CJ

    High beams: https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Bulbs: https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There are some pix of an E30 with these headlights here: https://www.motoroso.com/HRsprings/P...oject-U94?ajax

It looks like the low beam doesn't come with the socket for the city light. It's Hella part number 9FF 085 642-001, but I also found it as BMW part number 62148680130.

It also appears that the headlights don't come with sealing caps, but I think the ones for the E30 pre-facelift Euro Hella headlights will fit on them. The low beam cap is 63121381189 and it looks like the 3-pin connector housing for it is 61131378410 with pins 61130007441. That connector also comes on various other BMWs such as for the auxiliary fan on an E36. The high beam cap is 63128357401, which also happens to be the cap for the E36 fog light, and the 2-pin connector housing is 61131378401 and takes the same pins as the other.

You don't see a brand new one of these very often. :)

That's tempting! I decided I'm going to keep the silver though.

Nice! I too prefer cloth sport seats over vinyl or leather :)

-New timing belt and tensioner, & new pin and spring for tensioner because those were missing (!)
-New camshaft seal and housing o-ring (The Torx bolt was stripped from someone using an incorrect non-Torx socket, but I was able to fix it by tapping the correct socket onto it.)
-Checked valve clearances. The cylinder head was replaced by the previous owner not long ago so they were still within spec. (He included the original head too.)
-New rocker shaft end plugs (Those are a super PITA to remove and seat. The old ones were hard as a rock so the shop that replaced the head must have re-used them…not good.)
    -New valve cover gasket
-New radiator (Nissens. I think I would have preferred Valeo or NRF, but that’s what my local supplier had available.)
    -New cooling system hoses (CRP)
-New water pump and gasket (Graf)
-New thermostat & o-ring (Wahler) (The old o-ring was on the wrong side of the thermostat and part of it was sticking out the hose port.)
    -New fan clutch (Sachs)
    -New V belts (Continental)
-New spark plug wire set (OP / IMC)
    -New spark plugs (NGK ZGR5A)
    -New distributor cap (Bremi)
    -New distributor rotor (Bremi)
-New crankshaft position sensor (Vemo) (original tested over 65k ohms… yeah, that’s probably bad lol)
    -New ignition coil (Bosch)
-New coolant temp sensor for DME (Bosch)
-New coolant temp sensor for cluster gauge (FAE. That’s what I had on hand. Since the genuine one is available again I’ll probably get one of those later.)
    -New air filter (Mann)

Also going to install a new fuel filter (Mahle) and I found a brand new genuine Bosch AFM on eBay so I ordered that. Hopefully I can get this car purring like a kitten. :)

Nice find, awesome work and amazing orignal paint. Nothing better than a clean Sterling. I may be a little biased on the color though.

Can't wait for the kids to help me, good thing they love E30s!
Spit out my drink reading this. About to put a bunch of shit for sale online that I bought 3 times for my project.

I've done that before. A couple times for the Defender project. I made a list of parts I need, but then I would delete them after I ordered them. Now I keep it listed and mark it ordered.

    Found the fabric here: http://www.atxautosport.com/bespoke-products.html
Anyone order from them or know another supplier?

    That would look killer.
I just got black uberkaro covers from Stich 9.
I would have been tempted to get grey but he said it was unavailable.

I plan to keep it stock mostly. Lightly restore it and maintain it. It will replace the X3 as my daily driver. I’m not going to make a big project out of it because I still need to finish the Defender, which is a massive project.
