so, I have rebuilt carb and all that, had to fix a minor mistake with the carb that made it run like shit, and now it's alive and well with rotary power. the 12A feels perfect in this car. I don't know what the hell BMW was thinking when they put that freaking 4 cylinder made out of lead in this thing. E21+rotary=fun
I'll take more pics and update this thread more in the near future.
I think this winter I'm going to probably end up street porting my 12A and doing a rebuild, that should make it put out a great deal of extra ponies.Leave a comment:

I also kind of got it running:

the next day I got it to run much better, but then the carb was flooding out, a sign it had to be rebuilt. I didn't realize that, so I got an in line fuel pressure regulator and guage, then I couldn't get enough fuel in the carb, so after messing with that for a while, I researched and learned that I should rebuild the carb, so I'm gonig to do that soon.Leave a comment:

Big, and vague update:
unibody reinforcement plating and engine mounts:

RX7 radiator mounted with stock E21 air box mounting hardware off the old parts car and this one:

in line fuel pump, battery switch and battery cable routing, start button in de-frost button location, and clutch line with custom made ends (not in that order exactly)

the drive line I had to make, the drive line shops around here just couldn't do it, so I had to do it technically incorrectly.

oh schnaap!

any one want to buy all my M10 stuff?
almost ready for a rotary!
I think I'm also going to raise my steering rack so the angle of the tie rods isn't so extreme at ride height while there is no engine in the car, I'll probably soon modify the sub frame for control arm clearance as well.Leave a comment:

so after realizing that it's going to cost over $400 to properly re-build my non-seized m10, I decided that wasn't worth it. I am set on buying my friend's 12A rotary and trans and some other necessary odds and ends for $250
any thoughts? apparently E21's are 100 pounds lighter than 1st gen RX7's and mine will be even lighter with a rotary. sure it won't have a ton of power, but it's looking like the cheapest way to get my car running.Leave a comment:

bummer that his got destroyed, good to know they are safe though. I was a bit curious about that. I was never a huge fan of E21's, but always liked them, came across my first one (the one in my signature) for free. I liked how it was small and "right wheel drive", then I came across the one I have now which is better, and scrapped the first one. Wasn't too partial to E21's until I took the coils out of the one I don't have anymore, then I lowered my current one, I will always love E21's from now on as a result.Leave a comment:

I fucking love e21's. The euro bumper'd ones are godly. My father had one grey marketed to the US from when he was stationed in Germany in the 80's. Came back, 6 months later, got t-boned by a semi truck. Those bastards are so fucking safe he lived.Leave a comment:

so this car has a seized engine.
Thinking I might hone the cylinders on my 2 lire that I have laying around, put new piston rings in it, and new rod bearings, and then put my 1.8 litre head(the fuel injected one that's in the car now) on it with possibly newly replaced valve stem seals... I'm going to soon research if that is all possible. if it costs more than $300 to do all that, I just may ditch my M10 crap and put in something japanese. That's where I'm at for now.
oh yea, the 1.8 block may be cracked, it's missing a freeze plug..... real cool.Leave a comment:

ha, thanks dudes. I might look into the cost of vinyl once I get the car running and driving well.
I was planning on replacing at least the front struts, the ones I have are beyond dead, the back ones seem to work like new though... I'll probably run the rear struts I have until I kill them off. This car appears to have strut housings where you can remove just the shock absorber part and replace it... but I couldn't figure out how to get it apart... felt like a retard. I tried twisting the deal at the top that I had to grind down to make the coilovers fit and it was a no-go... perhaps I just needed to try harder. I had some massive channel locks on those though.
I'm fairly new to euro vehicles, all I've really owned before the two E21's is my suzuki grand vitara (daily driver) and my 86 yota pickup (rock crawler)... I've worked on other people's european cars before, but not nearly as in-depth as my japanese 4x4's... the point of all that is that I'm making an excuse for being too stupid to take my struts apart.Leave a comment:

I roffled at the dino camo. It rules!
get some billies though. It's gonna ride like crap.Leave a comment:

ha, many people are usually skeptical of my projects when I'm starting them, no worries.
also, you never know when a pterodactyl will snatch you up!
as far as the prior coment about "squat", If I understood properly, I do have issues, I'm practically on my bumps with the car sitting still, and I'm going to need to mod my sub frame because the control arms will hit it while driving if I don't.Leave a comment:

Wtf is dino camo? Will it prevent you from being carried off by pterodactyls?
Kidding aside, I must say that i was VERY VERY skeptical when i first saw this build. However, after seeing these pictures, you has captured my attention.Leave a comment:
