`88 Sedan track car build - here's Siobhan! Made the front page of Jalopnik!
I have a 92 325i with the M50 complete in it if you want me to take a pic for you kingston. To my knowledge everything is still in the same position it was put in from the factory if that's what you are looking for.
That would be fantastic! I feel like I've got stuff pretty close, but a pic would be dynamite!
Thank you!!-

Awesome work so far man. I'll definitely try and make it up this next Sunday if it's at all possible for me. I was in a car 16+ hours this weekend. If not, I'll be with you dudes there in spirit.

Paladin, that'd be awesome if you can make it! And since Tim's dared you... :D
No worries if you can't make it, though

Well, the last of the swap parts have been ordered from Levent at Guten Parts (the ONLY place I'll buy my parts!) and should be arriving here from various warehouses between Wednesday and Friday. Swap's ON, man!
I'll try and get some progress pics, but honestly, since I have people coming over to help, I'm going to try not to waste too much of their time.
It's quite possible that I will have a second build thread going before too long on R3V :) But right now. I'm still waiting to see if that comes to fruition!

Just a quick update with a pic of some parts that came in today
Spider hose, Valve Cover nut/washer/gromet, Green E28 M5 motor mounts, hose clamp for the throttle body intake boot, E34 throttle cable and rear chrankshaft seal.
Everything else I need SHOULD be here by Friday...I HOPE!! If so, the swap happens this weekend!!

I couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather, or a better set of dudes to come out and help get this swap going! A big THANK YOU to Tim, Ryan, Jason and Jake who came out to help me on a Saturday!! You guys RULE!!!!
The three Musketeers!
Ryan, Jason and Tim hoisting the M20 from Siobhan. I didn't shoot any pictures of Jake when he swung by. Sorry!
M...70?
The poor outcast M20, and the expectant powerplant.
Empty nest
This moment was cause for celebration...and still made me panic a bit. It's just so...final, I guess.
The obligatory 'standing in the empty engine bay' shot
The new E36 steering rack!
Can't wait to get to try out the new quicker ratio with the `50!!
Tomorrow, the emmfiddy goes in!!

I have a dual-mass flywheel (which realoem.com says I should for my car), and I ordered, and received the clutch that realoem.com says I should have for my car...but it doesn't work! It appears to be a clutch for a single-mass flywheel. So...no M50 in the car today :(
We did geta few things done. All the intake stuff is ready to go now. I finished buttoning up the new steering rack and knuckle. And we got the transmission and flywheel off of the M20. A few other odds and ends were completed as well.
A note: 3 of the allen-head bolts that hold on the clutch pressure plate rounded off when I was trying to remove them. The solution is to cut off the heads off the allen bolts with a Dremel tool. While this will leave the bolts still in the flywheel, once we removed the pressure plate, we were able to simply remove the remainders of the allen bolts...with our fingers. Tim told me that it's not so much that the bolts seize inside the flywheel, as that they seize to the pressure plate. I believe that the heat and vibration from the Dremel may also have helped.
I'll get the correct parts this week, and next Sunday, we'll drop the sucker in!
As always, thanks SO MUCH to the guys for helping out today! Tim came out again.
Tim prepping the M50 for insertion...into the garage, as turns out.

Almost there man! Why don't you want to run a single mass M20 flywheel?
I think I am going to go with a single-mass; I'd just planned to use the flywheel that was already in the E30. Levent's going to ship me a single-mass wheeel tomorrow. Are the downsides to running the single-mass just a little more noise/vibration at idle? I'm not worried about the lower inertia for shifting; heck, I'm excited about it!)...
I'm just frustrated, because I ordered the parts that realoem.com said I should have, and I thought we'd get a lot farther tomorrow. We'll be back on track (hopefully!) next Sunday.
Thanks for the encouragement! Got some other cool news today...Looks like Tim has a shorter shifter for me from an E36 M3, and a plastic bumper as well. And it looks like there may be another project car in my very near future!!!!

I think the single mass is the way to go. You might experience a little trans rattle, but it shouldn't be noticeable since it isn't lightened. On the plus side, you'll lose some rotational mass, making it r3v a bit easier.
And remind me to bring the bumper and shifter. Otherwise, I'll forget.

Levent has a single-mass M20 flywheel coming to me ($80, shipped!), along with new flywheel bolts and the correct transmission ball Pin (I think I ordered the wrong one in a moment of stupidity). I'm excited to move to the single-mass. :)
Tim, I'll remind you about the bumper, and shifter...and fitting for the windshield wiper water fluid tube...and the electrical kit to replace the wire on the starter harness...and...and... I owe you BIG TIME man!
Taking beer and food requests for next Sunday. And accepting volunteers to help with the swap again!
Should be ready to rock next Sunday!
