Nice job on the details! I'm thinking about doing the late model valance with the diving boards. -
What a turd. Next time I'm in town I will take it off your hands so you don't have to look at it anymore. I already talked it over with your wife so no need to drag her into it.
Awesome progress man. It really is.Leave a comment:

Such a well done car. It's perfect, very well resorted and a good example of oem+.Leave a comment:

Thanks for the compliment.
Good for a daily driver. Soft, but not too soft that it bottoms out the travel of the shocks. Wife doesn't complain that the car is too harsh which is nice since she drives it more than I do.
Don't ever take this setup to an auto cross or racing event though... it would be terrible for that and probably fail within a month. I've had this setup on now for a long time (it's in this thread somewhere) and they still work like the day I put them on. There is a reason these are cheap though.Leave a comment:

No real problems to report with the Eta. Had an issue with a torn spark plug boot that caused intermittent missing. Diagnosed that the hard way... was pulling plug wires to see which cylinder the problem was on. Got a nice little jolt when cylinder 1 fired.
I went ahead and changed the wires, cap, and rotor with some I had lying around from the 325 shell I sold. All is back to normal... and actually running better now.
The two front wheel bearings are now to the point they warrant replacing and will be done later this month. More updates on that when I get there...
Also went ahead and installed some IS weaves I had lying around with some good tires on them from my convertible. Really makes the eta look better, although the wheels could use some refinishing.
Lastly, went ahead and installed the Dave Mucci "Respect Your Elders" stickers I had been storing for awhile. See pics below. I think she looks pretty darn good for a car with ~400,000 miles.

Small update. Made a few nice scores lately. My attempt to slowly (emphasis on the slowly) restore this car continues. I had gotten a nice crack free passenger side tail light at the local PnP a long time ago but hadn't had any luck finding a nice driver side. Until now.

Also found some nice premium sound tweeter pods in need of plundering. So I snagged em and retrofitted my infinity tweeters into them. Sound much better with at least an attempt at some staging. I had them originally just facing straight out on the regular pillar/mirror pods. Was probably getting some cancellation and just out right bad staging before. They sound and look much better.

Update: Yep it was the crank sensor. I replaced both the crank sensor and speed sensor since they are the same part and both looked (and tested) in pretty poor condition. Total cost was about $80 for both sensors. Not too bad.
As a side benefit... the car cranks over and starts much, much, much quicker. I guess those sensors had been failing for awhile. Oh well.Leave a comment:

My 2 month long epic adventure to resurrect this ac system has come to an end finally. I pulled every part of the system and flushed it thoroughly. I have a collection of rust dust about 1/4" thick on the bottom of my collection container. Cleaned the screen on the compressor, installed new drier, new expansion valve, new o-rings of course, and all the rehabbed components.
Took her this morning to the shop and pulled vacuum. Held great. Then charged with r134... oh man does it feel nice to have AC after owning a car for 2 and half years without it. Feels like the car just went up in value and down in age. At idle the air is more than sufficient and while moving (any speed) it is COLD. Highway it will freeze you out of the car.
So I am... er was pretty stoked right!!!??? LOL my luck continues.

Go to start the car this morning to enjoy some more of that new AC... NO START!!! After copious amounts of cursing I dive in. Have fuel pressure at the cold start injector. Not sure about the injectors themselves. But as I am looking around I see the PO has ghetto rigged the crank sensor harness. So I pull the sensors and they are toast. Have both on order and will report back later.
Ahhhhh e30 ownership, isn't it grand.Leave a comment:

1700 for a paint-job? dang.. I got a quote for 1200, 800 if i prep it myself, and the quality is amazing. I've seen the cars that came through their shop.
Ur ride does look nice though, Drill the shocks and tuck them bumpers... I did it for a friend the other day. Much better.
I had my e28 painted for 650 bucks....and was amazing. Unfortunately, you typically get what you pay for. I don't think I would ever pay less then 1500 for a paint job. Prep is the most labor intensive part I would imagine tho. I could easily see 800/1200 paint job look awesome if prep was done youself.Leave a comment:
