Worked on taking apart and stripping down the engine on Wednesday and then took my wiring harnesses with me to college to do some research and make sure all the wiring is right.
Oh how I hate wiring.
Came back from school yesterday and discovered we got a new tool to our collection. :) 60 gallon 10.9cfm compressor to run things like our sandblaster and air impacts that my current 4 gallon cannot keep up with.
Also, put the clutch on the new motor to spec. Everything cleaned up. just waiting for the new throwout bearing to come in, then I can put the transmission and put the motor in the car.
Also have my m50 motor mounts meant for the swap. Not sure where/who made them, I bought them off of another guy. (maybe condor speed shop)
Also ordered the spacer kit from AKG Motorsports for the z3 rack. Was confused why this one was really loose and the kid who did the rack swap before me did it completely wrong.
Then... today, started some engine bay/paint work.
All sanded down.
Primer.
OH! AND COLOR! I like it a lot.

And so now I have a blank slate to work with. I am debating spending the time to shave it since I'm in there. What are all your opinions? I may wait to do this until later when I paint the whole car.
Got the transmission and everything apart for the most part. My garage is a mess, I really need to do some organizing.
Supersprint headers going onto the new engine.
10lb JBR flywheel. This thing is incredibly light!
M5 clutch and pressure plate.
Debating if I should replace the clutch. I don't know too much about clutches and conditions. What are all of your thoughts?
More to come. I am trying to get back to the garage to work on the car when I can.

Before I pulled the motor, messed around with the pwnycar and did some rallyx. Had all the cars together before ///MPact.
Got the motor out after school yesterday. Pretty simple since I already had everything off the motor. The scary thing was what I found was missing on this car. It was half put together. In short, half the bolts were missing on the whole car. 3/7 intake mani bolts were present, Starter was very lose. Engine mounts were ever bolted, just sitting on the studs.... ummm, I could probably list tons more things, but I'm gonna try not to think about how drunk Jimmy Oh was building this car. Lol.
I think I'll eventually upgrade to a bigger engine hoist to get a little bit better angle.
Also picked up this from another local e30 guy, so now I'll have 2 corbeau fixed backs.
Picked up a set of 16x8 compomotives as well.

I have been very lazy with this car, but its time to start getting on it and doing some work. I have been too busy trying to get Funfgang's car working for some past shows and just to drive it since I put half the effort into it. Also, the rallycar has been keeping my busy as well. I got the motor out last night, despite the fact that I live over half an hour away from the car while I'm at college. Some pictures of the past progress are below, including taking the bronzit apart and cutting it up.
This is how I had to get her to the garage. Rallycar ftw.
Just cut the front core off and dropped the motor down below and pulled the car up and over the engine.
Made a mess getting the gas tank out.
Then cut the car in half and took it to the scrap yard. RIP bronzit.
Yes, this was safe.

Daily-able Racecar Build. Finally getting paint and other goodies! B)
Here we go again. I start another build thread with anticipation of keeping it up to date. So, the car in question is an 89 325is. It was originally Jimmy Oh (Jafxod)'s car.
I bought the car a couple months ago and upon having it home, I realized how many lose ends and work the car really needed. I continued to daily the car even though It had some issues. Car decided to overheat on me and I discovered the headgasket had gone bad and I was losing coolant and oil near the back of the block. So I decided that it was time to take the whole thing apart and put it back together, but correctly this time.
It has the following mods already:
M50NV swap
Supersprint Longtube headers with full 3 inch exhaust.
Autopower bolt in cage
Corbeau seat with 5-point harness
Z3 steering rack. No power steering
5 lug swap
Enkei 92s
Raceskids skid plate
It may all sound good an happy, but I will be pulling motor and putting in a 60k mile M50TUB25 with S50 cams in the next month. Later on I will either be doing a standalone or buying a chip to go with the cams. I also have to fix the screwed up suspension geometry caused by the e36 non-M 5 lug swap. Paint is in order too.... down the road.
My garage right now.... 3 motors. Swapping a motor out in my sisters sonata right now. Timing belt broke. :(
M50 I just picked up which is being traded for some S50 cams.
I also bought dnick's wrecked car with a good M50 in it. I am selling everything else from the car. All the M50 swap stuff is for sale and anything else you might need. Feel free to PM me about it.
Header's and full 2.5" exhaust for sale.
Also pulled this mint dash out of the car too. No cracks whatsoever.
Typing this is making me realize how much I have to do in the next month. That is it for now on the build. Just an intro. Now on to fix Jafxod's mess.... now my mess.Last edited by shEck3lls0; 07-30-2013, 10:03 PM.Tags: None
