I like the build, slow and steady is the way to build a nice car to daily.

    Time for a lackluster update!

Bought a couple parts for the swap.

Then I bought a Macbook Pro so project funds have been kind of low:down:

This is the only work I've done on my car in the past couple weeks. Switched out door cards for a set that didn't have window crank plugs.

    Before:

    After:

If someone doesn't know off hand, then you will find what you're looking for in a wiring diagram.

Got the engine block hot tanked last week.

Never had anything hot tanked before but I thought that it completely removed all gunk/grease/dirt from the block. When I got it back it had this grey film on the inside and out. Is this common?

Now i'm spending hours cleaning it with a wire bristled brush...

Also received my m52 crank, pistons, and cylinder head last week.

(came with cams but I don't need them since i'm going with S52 cams)

A few other things that I can work on when I want to take a break from the engine.

A bit bent on the lower right side. If i can get it straightened out then I'll repaint it and throw on the is lip I also got off the parts car.

Rebuild and repaint is the plan for these.

Zender rear valance from the parts car. It looked pretty good when installed so maybe I'll repaint it and throw it on. Would definitely cover up that eye sore of a dent in the back.

Also cleaned the M50 Vanos wiring harness that I got last week. I'm gonna do the wiring myself rather than buying an adapter. I thought the harness was uncut but it appears that 2 of the wires were chopped. Any clue what they were for?

    White/Green and White/Blue

    Wound in with this

That's all for now. Back to scraping at this damn engine block.

Yeah I got lucky for sure. I was driving on a pretty bad road though. 5 minutes after I crashed, a truck got it even worse in a bigger ditch haha.

Put her in a ditch this morning.

I probably saved the body by spinning the car into the ditch rather then dipping the front end in like it originally was headed.

Girlfriend's uncle pulled me out and other than a bent up valance (which was already somewhat bent from previous owner) the car is fine.

When I get home I'll take a closer look but the oil pan looks okay and no fluids are leaking from the car.

Oh yeah and I'm okay too haha.

    Excellent catchy thread title.

    Would read again.

Keep up the build man. It was kickass of you to buy a car and then immediately embark on a badass 11 day roadtrip. Sleeping in the E30 is always a memorable occassion as well. I look forward to doing it in the near future.

I know nothing about bodywork or painting but I'm wondering if I can just address that small chunk of surface rust and have someone sand and repaint the area and blend it in with the rest of the paint effectively. That's something I'll take care of later though.

For now it's all about this M52 swap. I've decided to go with OBD2. It may be less documented on here but it doesn't seem to be much more complicated. So why not go with the slightly more advanced system.
