Emma Watson and 2 E34's (Low Mount Turbo M50 Project)
It began yesterday. Finally I have some time to work on my own cars! The truth is "this car sucks". It leaks everywhere. It has gasket maker dabbed on where the oil pan meets the block, the list goes on and on. Removing the exhaust required an angle grinder because someone decided to weld the hanger directly to the chassis. WTF Its tired, been rode hard and put away wet. Im sick of limping it around pissing fluid everywhere and listening to it clunk and groan so I dove in.
Surgery begins. Fluids drained, harness removed, all hoses, electrical ect.
removed the radiator only to find even more dirt. grocee
more nasty
Then I peeled all my ac line insulation off.
removed the shift linkage and cables to prepare for the 5 speed going in.
heres the welded exhaust hanger. I hate ghetto shit and this is exactly that.
This is a major hanger on the 5 series so ill have to fab up something to make it right. My exhaust is so trashed and heavy Im almost tempted to build a new single 2.5 inch. Ill get to this later.
auto driveshaft and 4.10 open diff removed to make room for the new.
If it doesnt rain tomorrow ill yank the drivetrain. all I have left to do is lift it out.
Not a whole lot going on for todays update. I decided to work on my new to me LSD I picked up at the yard.
Heres my medium case input shafts.
input shafts cleaned up to remove the seal groove.
I did all this before I figured out the flanges wouldnt work....
So I just popped out the other ones from the large case diff, cleaned and lubed em and put them back in. What a waste of time lol
The bottom line...Im fukeddd. My stock open 4.10 I assume is considered a medium case diff. At least thats what Ive gathered from this massive write up (amongst other things)

In order for my e32 diff to work Im going to have to swap axle shafts for e32 shafts 735 or 750i and the axle carrier too. real oem part # shows 33211225859
After reading more IF I want to run this 3.15 rear end LARGE CASE I have to get a custom driveshaft. :( So I guess ill try and see what I can fab up with 2 auto shafts and 1 manual shaft.
If you have a clean engine bay, the bitches will be on your dihhh
To be honest the granite color didnt come as clean as I like it. It seems like all my other cars bays popped real nice and bright when cleaned properly. This one is kinda just "meh" O'well whats clean is clean.
I screwed myself and accidentally grabbed a m42 g240 pilot bearing from my stash of goodies thinking it would work. No. So now I cant bolt up my 5 speed until I get the right one. $13 at a local parts house so tomorrow I should be able to drop the engine back in.
Deep cleaned the m50 also. It needed it real bad. Cracked open the oil pan and resealed with a new gasket.
Bypassed throttle body heater
Deleted stupid coolant to weird air temp sensor on air box
new valve cover gasket
re tap oil pan drain.
Still to do.
new crush washers on banjo bolts for PS
get new vacuum hose for FPR and crankcase.
Clean ICV
Intake gaskets
Wrinkle black valve cover.
Wrinkle black TB
Engine and 5 speed trans are now in the car. Im a lazy ass and I didnt take any pics. Sucks to be me.
Feelin pretty good about being 5 speed finally. Still undecided about my LSD issue. I may try and find a 3.15 medium case so I dont have to mod my driveshaft and axles to accept the large case e32 rear end.
Also picked up a set of e31 forged turbine wheels and M5 side skirts. I cannot find a m5 or m sport front bumper for the life of me.
