Introduction:
I recently purchased this car from forum member zhp43867 and his father Steve both avid BMW enthusiasts. here is the link to the previous for sale ad.
I drove with my awesome wife right after work to PA which took us 4 1/2 hours. Long story short i wasn't able to drive the car back that night due to a vibration in the steering which turned out to be a loose wheel. Regardless, Steve and Derek drove the car to me the following morning.
Specs:
1991 BMW 318is in desirable Alpine white with black vinyl interior and 180,000 miles on a still functional odometer. This is very much an unmolested example with no accidents, no rust and all panel numbers matching.
"It has a number of OEM+ upgrades including: Bilstein HD shocks, H&R OE Sport springs and Dunlop Star Spec tires mounted on stock basket weave wheels. The vacuum lines and hoses under the intake manifold are new. The engine comes with the desirable coil-on-plug conversion, DeSilva performance chip and matching 22lb injectors. A Dynomax VT muffler complements the increased performance with a sporty yet drone-free sound. The dashboard is a new factory OEM replacement that retails for $1300 and, therefore, has a perfect, as-new grain pattern.
The seats are in excellent condition and have only minor imperfections. There are no rips in the seats whatsoever. The audio system features a late model Blaupunkt head unit with Bluetooth and iPhone connectivity. To maintain the sporting character of this 318is, no weight has been added to the car beyond one compact digital amplifier – and yet the upgraded speaker components allow for a very fine sound indeed.
Recent maintenance includes new inner tie rods as well as steering coupler. Regular oil changes always performed with Castrol 0w30 European formula. This is a strong running, fine handling BMW 318is that out-scoots so many of today’s weight-soddened performance cars."
To do List:
-oil pan gasket leaking.
-power steering leak appears to be leaking PS reservoir.
-Flex disc (guibo) cracks are visible.
-output shaft seal on the transmission is leaking.
-Air bag light is on.
-Check engine is on at idle accompanied by a rough idle. could be due to COP conversion or maybe a bad coil.
-Vibration while braking. Have to check brakes and tires to see if out of balance.
-replace various exterior gaskets and trim.
-install upgraded headlights smilies,or ellipsoids.
-
Goals:
Finish most of the issues before BavAuto Show in October.
Maintain car to OEM spec and address all the little issues.
The car is just a weekend driver since my E30 M3 is going through a total restoration.
Things done so far:
Respect your elders sticker
New ZHP shift knob.
Pictures can be found here from the for sale ad since i haven't had time to take any proper ones.
