i don't know why imageshack keeps deleting that fucking GMR picture. i miss having my own FTP host.

at any rate, passed smog today. had to go to 4 different shops to get it done.

the first one popped the hood, looked at the ITB setup, and said "fuqno".

the second one (Castro's) couldn't help me because their test-only smog guy wasn't there today. "come back monday."

the third one had some kind of computer issue and also said "come back monday" when i'd already driven all the way from lawndale to north hollywood.

i was about to give up and hop back on the freeway when out of sheer desperation, i tried a 76 station that had a test-only smog shop in the back. the guy liked the car, and mentioned that he used to have a 1602. he gave the ITB setup the hairy eyeball for a minute, went around to the back of the car and saw it was debadged, and then asked me if it was an M3. i said "yes sir, it is". then he nodded like what he was seeing made sense :D

    results:

    recap on the engine:
    - dbilas ITBs
    - COP conversion
    - 22lb/hr injectors
    - adjustable FPR
    - MarkD 91-octane ECU
    - 2.5" cat-back

/r/ comments on the results plox. the thing that jumps out at me is that hydrocarbons are WAY low, which surprised me, because while the car is in warm-up you can smell fuel from the exhaust. after the car is running normally the smell goes away. but at any rate, i've increased both injector size and fuel pressure, maybe it needs a bit more of a bump. what do you all think?

got new fenders on both sides because i figured i wouldn't be able to make the pull job look the same (and kinda didn't want to).

picked up the prototipo and hub from pelican parts.

the seats (with brackets) dropped somewhere between 20-25lb each, and the battery about the same. the backseat didn't really weigh a significant amount, but it seemed kind of dumb to leave it in there with fixed-backs in the front.

as far as other weight reduction goes, the convertible trunk anvil, air-con, and power steering are all gone. i'm gonna guesstimate about 150lbs out of the car total, when you count adding the hardtop. it's hard to find a lot of weight in any one thing, you have to look for incremental gains in lots of places (much like getting more power out of an M42).
