My mom wants me to trade in my e30 for a Cash for Clunker. I'm looking for a foxbody for cheap so I can trade that pile in. I should be able to pick one up for a couple hundred bucks. I'm hoping for like a 2009 rabbit, just something practical for commuting to school.Leave a comment:

So by your definition, every government program is a failure, since they all spend money? Are our environment and our auto industry not worthy of spending money on?
There's no need to go in to the economics of it, because everyone knows that it makes perfectly good sense. In fact, there are many governments all across Europe that are doing the same thing, and they've all seen big gains in their domestic auto sales. Maybe you haven't heard, but we're in the middle of a recession. And helping people ditch old clunkers for new autos that put people to work and inject money in to the economy is exactly what we need.
I guarantee you I know more about it than you sonny.
our environment is worth spending money on but how does buying new cars which require more emissions to manufacture and produce help the environment?
our auto industry should be allowed to succeed or fail on its own terms. UK had an automotive industry and failed out of existance.. they still seemed to be doing much better than the US.
The reason why their version of the program is effective is because their economy is much smaller than ours and most importantly they arent as broke as america!! public transit accounts for half the transportation in europe unlike us. so of course their version of the program will cost significantly less than ours. YOU forget, America has a hugeeeeeeeeeeee deficit, this program doesn't help it at all.Last edited by bmwstephen; 07-31-2009, 03:51 PM.Leave a comment:

So by your definition, every government program is a failure, since they all spend money? Are our environment and our auto industry not worthy of spending money on?Regardless of how many cars were sold under the program, it is a failure. It was a failure as soon as it was signed into law. It is simply a government subsidy that spends our tax dollars on something that does not need to have money spent on.
I'm not going to go into the economics of why this is bad. However, anybody with a grain of sense has to understand that this is just another government spending program at a time when the government should not be wasting money like that.

Every filthy word you wrote simply demeans what they stand for and what they have accomplished. Your ignorant and arrogant stance is indicative of a declining society to caught up in the vast superiority of their haughty dogma to understand the basic principles that guide truly free and prosperous men.Leave a comment:

Exactly, I like the comment about testing the cars before they were eligible. those machines arent hard to aquire.
They could have easily tested cars in all 50 states. those dealerships that were eligible for the cash for clunkers should have been required to have a NOX machine. All this did was stick a bandaid on the problem
I agree, I should go out and buy a RePo Truck next year. The percentage of people that can afford these new cars is probably pretty low.
Others are riding the grace period........Leave a comment:

The government institutes the 'Cash for Clunkers' program. The public loves it. In fact, they love it so much that they trade in cars at a totally unexpected rate, much higher than anyone had predicted.
And that's the governments fault? And it's a 'failure', according to you?
Perhaps you need to look up the definition of the word failure (hint, it's the opposite of success)
Like I said, if you opened a business and sold out in 5 days because people loved your stuff so much, would you call yourself a failure?
Except that the $$ you spend on foreign oil went to kill over 2000 innocent Americans on 9/11. And it continues to kill our soldiers all over the middle east. Still want to bring it on? How many soldiers lives are worth it?

too bad you're taking capable cars off the road in favor of new cars that require more emission to manufacture and produce than the combined emissions that are emitted through the life of an old clunkerSeems like a good program to me.
I've heard of many people getting new vehicles just because of this. Perhaps many of you have never met someone that is 100% cheap. This extra money, paired with the deals that dealers are giving are making it where people that don't need a new car, figure they might as well.
Plus it is continuing to help launch my Ford stock.
And to those that don't see the link between emissions and fuel consumption... wow.
A + B = C
x*(A + B) - D = C
A = fuel
B = air
x = reduction in fuel/air amount
D = NEW emissions controls
C = total emissions.
I'm usually very against government intervention (fiscally conservative), but this program really makes since to me.
<3 you guys..
but yes, my ford stocks are going up as well too so i have to thank the gov's stupidity for this. I'm capitalizing on America's stupidity as soon as this bill was passed. shame...Last edited by bmwstephen; 07-31-2009, 02:53 PM.Leave a comment:

The only problem with your comparison is, is that when a business sells out they generally have a profit after that which can be further utilized to meet that demand. Last time I check, I don't think governments are getting a profit out of this... meaning that continued funding for this program equates to continued deficit spending which further leads to FAILURE of the government because they failed to have an accurate projection of their spending like any other program they legislate.
So let me get this straight.
