2.6 DOHC V8 designed by Mezger.
Final version had the turbo in front of the engine for weight distribution. It made a unique high-pitched noise. Only issue was the turbo was near the fuel pump and it boiled the methenol.

Porsche and Derek Walker had March build a secret all-carbon chassis for the 1990 season. There was a gap in the rules which normally required an aluminum tub. The other team owners were caught off guard and voted against allowing it...."not safe" yada yada. They had to build a last minute aluminum copy of the chassis but it was heavy and not competitive.

Replica of the winning RSR from the 1973 Targa Florio. Great looking, but it's a '78 SC with modern suspension and a 930-based turbocharged engine. Doesn't that sort of cancel out the point of the 2.8 NA car it really was?

                      Sorry, nope.

But I DO have the factory LeMans GTE RSR entries in retro Rothman's and the Pink Pig liveries! First one needs the big white block lettering on the sides IMO.

Went back and read some things on the origin of the Pink Pig. It was a Porsche consultant, the French aero firm SERA, which designed the wide, round, low shape, a cross between the short tail and long tail 917s. It showed up at LeMans test day with the factory-backed Martini livery. Count Rossi (Martini & Rossi) said Whoaa, hold up, we're not putting our name on that thing, take it off!

The mechanics had already been calling it The Pig because of it's appearance, and a Porsche in-house designer ran with that and gave it the cuts of meat paint job.

It was actually quite a bit faster down the Mulsanne than the famous short tail 917 (maybe because of less drag than the big wedge shape?) but was knocked out of the race in an accident.

I am ashamed to admit I never knew about the pink pig livery but now think its pretty cool. And a neat story attached to it as well.

Oh, I found out more -
The crash, at dawn Sunday, was for some time called pilot error on driver Reinhold Joest. It was discovered back at the factory that because the car was faster on the straights, it was much harder on the brakes, but no one had adjusted the brake pad change intervals among the 917s. It welded a backing plate onto a brake rotor, which jerked it into the fences.

Another Martini team car, #22, a 917K with the revised tail, went on to win in 1971 after getting a bit bashed up.
