^ That looks awesome, I love the exposed belt drive.
I need a new needle for mine, it was free, but the needle is pretty much crap. I'm told I probably shouldn't spend any more than 20 dollars. Anybody have a pointer for a needle at this price range, or one that could be cheaper and delivers better?

R3viving a zombie thread here. About a year ago I said I wanted a record player. Year later I happened into getting a free one. I'm sitting in my living room now, listening to Bon Iver and chillin out with my Sanyo record player and a kenwood receiver. Feelsgoodman.Leave a comment:

Don't know of any specific models off hand, but www.audiokarma.org has been most helpful for my needs, especially the vintage stuff. Finally got my system up and running a few weeks ago. Harman/Kardon + JBL =

Nothing fancy just a Harmon HK3370 and a pair of DBdynamics speakers.
Has a H.K. DVD21 as well but keeps freezing up which would be worse than useless if I didn't use the Ipod for everything bar vinyl now.Leave a comment:

Lee,
That exact TT is sitting at my Fav vintage audio shop in Rochester, NY. Worth the $400 he wants for it? I'm tempted, although im already spending a good chunk of change to get my New Large Advents refurbished. Not to mention a Bogen Tube amp I might be picking up.Leave a comment:

I have a Technics SL1200 mark 2. Mine is silver and really really nice. Its direct drive and takes allt he high end cartrdiges.
looks like this:

Alos if you want to drop the coin on something like this, buy it used...they rarely break. Use the extra mony to buy a cheapo preamp and some selp powered monitorsLeave a comment:

Bang & Olufsen's old equipment (pre-mid 80's) from when they actually made audio components and not just fancy art decor was pretty good. I have a B&O Beogram 3400 that my dad bought new in 1980. If you're looking for new stuff, I always liked NAD for a budget line of audio. I never listened to their turntables, but I heard some pretty good reviews for it. Also, keep in mind that you're going to need a phono pre-amp to run a turntable.Leave a comment:

While on home audio...
How important are Power conditioners/surge protectors?
I was recommended the APC H15...Leave a comment:
