Mostly just something to add to my room for next year so I dunno if I want to spend more than 150 bucks on the table itself. I could probably get speakers for cheap if not free, people are always gettin rid of those.

it is the standard for DJing... had 1200M3Ds and loved them. but i don't know if home listeners enjoying their collection of classics need to justify the investment.

i need to get something, because a family member recently offered to gift me their ancient vinyl. cream/iron butterfly/etc... but buying a turntable is a few hundred bucks i don't get to spend on the car.

I have tons of vinyls sounding better than CDs. CDs are practical but not always the best sounding. MP3s are even more practical, and even worst sounding.

I suggest picking an SL1200Mk2 and up

The Mk1 was the first step after the face lift. It has no slider for pitch control. In fact it has the controls of the older SL1100. The SL1000 has remained a club turntable for years and well until the late 1980s, but the S1200Mk2s were easier to work with.

A 30 year old SL1200MK2 is just as good as 3 year old one. They were that good. There are 100,000 units in North America and are easy to get. And even to fix.

Luxman PD264 was the first decent table I ever bought.

Google that shit, it was beautiful.

Anything from "Music Hall" or "Pro-Ject" will amaze you.

Any of the "AR" tables were legendary, anything by S.O.T.A. is (worth more than most E30s) amazing, a Linn Sondek is STILL worthwhile, damn near 40 years later.

I have an old but heavily modified Sansui sitting in the garage, gonna spin some vinyl until I can get something decent. I might do the new Pro-Ject Rm1.3, but the RM6 is more like it...that new carbon fiber arm is gorgeous, and should perform pretty nicely:
