wanna know a fun fact about Bryson tiller?

hes really legit though. I saw him open for Travis Scott a while back and I was hooked. that was actually the first time he had ever performed on stage, was really cool to be there for that.

glad I searched for an existing hip hop thread before starting one.

this doesn't really seem like a discussion thread, but...

    Rant 1:

I can't escape anything related to J.Cole or Kendrick lately and its really annoying. they're both talented, and I'm a fan of Kendrick myself, but holy shit do I think they're over credited.

both of them only have two albums, have not made a huge dent/influence in culture or music, etc etc. Kendrick is a great lyricist, and he has potential to grow, but hes already thrown into the GOAT discussions, and I don't think hes even close yet. same for J.Cole, but with less potential.

    Rant 2:

every other day I hear older dudes comparing 90s hip hop to todays hiphop and wont stop with the "90s was real hip hop" "my era was the best era" etc etc.
its like comparing new cars to old cars. things change, get over it. every generations music is "better than the next". rock, house, hiphop, r&b, every single genre. back in the day the dads and grandpas talked shit about acdc and Led Zeppelin and said it wasn't rock n roll, and then the fans of that music discredited rhcp, nirvana etc, and those guys blah blah blah blah you get my point, its just annoying when people cant realize how biased and subjective they're being.

Soooo, who on that "To Pimp a Butterfly"????

Gave it about 3 full listens, from start to finish. It is a completely different Kendrick from GKMC. Not that it's bad, but it will catch you off guard if you aren't prepared. I knew this album would be more of the thought provoking, social issue type when he dropped those singles in 2014. Either way, I like it. A lot. It's not an album for the radio, it is an album for pure listening. What you guys think?
