There's nothing wrong with a job learning to cold call, and learning belly to belly sales. If you can get a sales education from that company, I say it's worth it in the long run. Many people say they can sell, but none know anything about actually "selling" a product. Open ended questions, leading, and brand building can translate into many jobs. Take it seriously, put in the work and you will be compensated. Those who worked there for a week, then left can't tell you what will happen if you actually put in 100%
take it from someone who has sold his entire life. There are no bad products, just bad salesmen.
If you sell crap, that's fine, just be honest that it's crap. If you sell a better product than most, and you make your customers understand you are there to provide a service to them, not only sell them knives, you will be fine.

Just like everybody else in this thread, I sold Cutco out of high school too! Sold a few homemaker sets, but that was about it. The warranty is legit though, I found some knives in a thrift store, sent them in and they replaced them! Still use those thrift store replacements today almost 10 years later!
I know this is against Vectors policy, but hey that company is a scam. How much for some stuff for R3v members?

I've been in college for about 5 years so far. I got about 92 credits in in environmental studies/general ed courses, then I transferred and drastically changed my major to business because I there aren't many jobs with environmental. Then I changed to Computer Science because I like computers a lot. I just haven't been enjoying the programming and math part of it.
Now I think I'm going to change back to business (marketing/finance) and do a minor in computer science. Then if I want, I can always go back to school and do CS.
It sucks not knowing what you want to do exactly. My ultimate dream job is to become a race car driver. But they don't teach that in college. :(

All the vector and cutco haters do me a favor and cut me some slack. I didnt post on here to get my job bashed. Trust me, selling knives isnt my idea of a dream job. I needed some money, as you all know the job market is pretty shitty right now so i took the job selling cutco. The product rocks, im yet to have a bad experience with the company, and my comission is growing.
That being said, I am looking for a 'real job' and i have applied for several. My resume is damn good for someone my age (20) and i guess im just not quite desperate enough/ready to settle for $8.00/hr working a checkout counter at walmart.
I was a Communications/Education double major, with a history minor. I wasnt happy with my major and realized i wanted to go with business or even law. Both my sisters are in school, so with me being uncertain as to what i want to do i decided to take this year to try and figure out what i want to do.Last edited by Joe G; 11-29-2010, 10:35 AM.

My mum has $2000 or so in her knives. She loves them. Make sure when you sell to throw in something for free, like the spreader thing. Everybody she knows loves that spreader and it is a big selling point for them

I used to sell those, along with a bunch of other shit like wind up radio's and tea light fountains out of a box. That was a whack job.
I used to pitch those knife sets as "Lorena Bobbit starter kits". I sold so many hahahaha. A word of advice, get a real job

I actually was hired by vector awhile ago, but after that I looked around a bit and discovered just how much work it would take to actually make decent money. I ended up picking up a more stay and far more enjoyable job. Yeah I know a few people who have done the vector thing and done well, but there are a lot of better jobs out there...

Cutco knives are quite awesome, however I hate vector with a passion. They use your friends and family to sell a nice, however overpriced product. There is a damn good reason they don't sell Cutco in stores, no one would pay as much money.

I have a full cutco set, they're awesome. Peanutbutter and jelly knife is the best thing ever.

we have a full set and they're much better in keeping an edge than other brands we've had
good for you trying to get ahead
selling cutco knives is great training for any sales related job in the future and can only enhance a resume
