Ok, I've owned a few E30's in my day. And I get where you're coming from... But E30's are not the greatest car in the world, they're good cars, no doubt. But they break a lot, and you need to own a parts car to drive one as daily, or have someone who does on speed dial.
And it's a fucking Miata, have you ever driven one? I have for the past 5 months, I dread getting into it every time and every time I see a girl looking at me in it, I want to fucking kill myself. Not to mention it's slow as fuck and a pile of shit that breaks every 2 seconds. I got dusted by my buddies moms Kia Forte the other day... And by train lengths... not car lengths. I don't put more track km's on my car then road km's. If I did, then I would own a track car.
Back to WRX's, the trannys will hold upto about 300whp from what I've gathered. If I was making over that I would invest in a 6spd or a JDM STI 5spd.
APPARENTLY, you can do a transmission in like 2 hour. I believe it, it looks like a joke to get out.
I'm going to check a 02 out tomorrow with a turboback and a AP tune. I'm just going to do a VF39, FMIC(or sti cooler), STI pinks and a protune. Should make some jam and be pretty reliable. When I get it, it's just getting STI wheels and HSD coilovers.
I just got hired at a BMW dealer and they own a Subaru dealer, so parts are cheap as hell and I have access to a 24 hour shop.
I just need input on reliability and fun factor from people on here who have own/owned one.
A+ answer.I assume it would be daily driven. If that's the case they are fun cars. Easy to modify all wheel drive is cool especially in Canada. The interior is ok kind of cheep Japanese looking though. Good on gas. I had fun with mine.
If tracking it, adding a lot of power, or just being stupid with it yeah upgrade the transmission.
Love you guys... Full homoLeave a comment:

I have a lightly modded 04 wrx wagon, 95k on the clock, just put a clutch in. The interior sucks, retardly loud unless you coat it in dynamat. For some reason the door sensors go on them so the interior light goes on randomly, and the timing belt needs to be done at 100k.
That being said, I put on a Perrin intake, tsudo catless uppipe, catless 3in downpipe, and a badlanz hpe electric cutout. Really woke the car up, I have no issue keeping up with my buddies 07 sti.Leave a comment:

I had an '02. The only real issue is that the trans isn't very durable and has the worst synchros ever. (That and the weird flywheel chattering.)
It was a decent car and I kind of regret selling it.Leave a comment:

I have an 02 WRX, I've had it for 4 years. It's not too bad, it sucks on gas, I usually don't let it warm up, I work less than a mile from home and bike during the summer, but this winter I've been getting around 16mpg. At a little over 60k miles I had a bearing start making noise in the tranny, it came apart, went thru the ring and pinion and out the side of the transmission case. They are glass, take it easy on them. Other than that it's been pretty good, and it's decently fun. Wheel bearings used to be a big problem, I had a 2000 2.5RS Impreza and went through a couple. With the WRX I've replaced one in 30k+ miles. Not a bad DD/Winter car.Leave a comment:
