24v's are also pretty easy to turbo/supercharge and can take a lot of shit from what I've read.
I should mention the ASD diffs, which can be changed from about 25 to 100% diff lock with the flip of a DIY hydraulic switch.

The 12v head is a lot more robust than the 24v. All you have to do is look at the quality and thickness of the casting or the headgasket failure rate. The 24v is prone to warping. That said, if its healthy the 24 will be a lot easier to squeeze top end power. Just don't try to put a turbo on it.

I picked up a 2.6 manual for $850 last spring and I'm running MS2 on it. All the EFI parts are available in the JY including a 24v fuel rail. The plan right now is to get my hands on a diesel turbo manifold or swap in a 3.0.

The wiring is still a work in progress. I have 5k trouble free miles on it so far.

They has a Cosworth on Top Gear with a nice little dogleg.

    I liked that.

The engine is from a W124 but placed in a W201.
I own a straight six C280 and the engines are just as durable and fun and easy to work on as the BMW bix sixes. The Brabus 190 3.6 is a great car, but rare and expensive. 24V swaps in the 190 are also possible, but aftermarket parts scarce compared to E30s.
Pretty cool bit of info there. If I were to do this swap, I'd do the 12v'er.

a good friend of mine had one of them in black, had no idea what he even had, thought it was just an old benz with an oil leak he wanted me to fix. I saw the motor and started googled it right away. his really wasnt that fast though, the motor was pretty beat I guess. the e30 is still a way better car!

If only 5spd's were more readily available here I'd rock one!

Meh, I don't mind it so much, it completes the look. At least they're not chrome!
