first off you need to verify the car is not stolen, get vin number before buying go to your local police department and they can let you know, it all depends on staff some can be a dick and not help you out. I did that to one car I was going to buy which also didn't have a pink slip and guess what?? car was stolen.....

In NJ...the seller (prior owner) can go to DMV with an old registration or something with the vin number on it in his name and get a duplicate title. You won't be able to do it. Just the seller/owner. If u buy without title, be prepared to part it out.

Just register it in a shady area. Nobody will raise an eye brow there.

Here in bay city you'd have issues, but if you drive 15 mins to the Saginaw branch you'd be fine. Lol

Super cheap and no title throws immediate red flags, get the police to check it before you do anything.

Get the vin# run by the local police station have them check to see if its filed as stolen if not go to wherever you get tags and registration and file for lost title. If you buy it and it is stolen they will sieze the car and maybe even arrest you for possesion/purchase of stolen property.

What do you mean that car has no title? Did the guy loose it?

If the dude lost it here in nw we have a thing called, affidavit in lieu of title. Guy goes to DMW says he lost the title, fills out paper work. done.

My 318i had no title...It's in my name now. Magic.

Receipt with current registered owners signature should do it, but I'd call your secretary of state and find out.

Sorry, but in Va, you can take out a mechanics lien if a customer doesn't pay/refuses to pay for work done to a car.

I short, the the car becomes the shops.

The shop can then sell the car, part it out, etc.

I know in PA it's illegal to do that, (just saw OP's location..) but other states, IDK.
