I politely request you change the title. German Shepherd or Deutscher Schäferhund, although I often tell people Sarge (my GSD) is an Alsatian.


He does seem to like the Irish.

I have a GSD the wife and I rescued. Her and her litter mates were left in a cooler on the side of the road. Her ears never went up which leads me to believe she is a mix, but she is an awesome dog none the less.

A high school friends GSD bit me once. She was what I would consider a non-aggressive dog, but she just had a litter of pups, and I showed up on a loud motorcycle just outside the garage where she kept the litter. A fangy, furry streak from under the partially raised garage door latched onto my left boot before I got the kickstand down. I whipped my helmet off, kicked my boot free, and called her name. She promptly bit me on the thickest part of the thigh. I was impressed. I think I popped her on the nose as the bike fell over and we circled the downed bike for a few long moments before my friend got her under control. It really didn't hurt that much, but I don't think she was trying that hard. I got a week off from soccer practice.

that really was a cool story, not being an ass hat. Momma dog neutralizes threat. I would say your right if it didn't hurt that much she wasn't trying too hard.

I got bit across the face by my Collie twice. Once I ripped the recliner back down and smashed his ass in the footrest. The other time I stepped on his foot hardcore. I was about 7 and 10 for both incidences. Still have the scars.

Said Collie has since passed and we adopted cats from the barn. Not nearly
as fun as a dog.

I have heard stories about Collie's being like this allot, not at all like Lassie, kind of aggressive, I know the Smaller versions I have met were all ill-tempered.

How much do GSD's shed? Is it really bad?

And why do apartment complex's have issues with GSD's? They always seem to be calm and under control.

Everyone sees the videos of the police dogs taking down people with GSDs and thinks all of them do that.

The shedding is not too bad in my opinion, but I brush or comb at least twice a week. This really cuts down on the amount of hair that ends up in the car and house. He seems to like it and sits still as long as I continue.

I suspect the apartment complex problem is partly due to the financial risk to the landlord. We live in a litigous society, and some dog owners are not as responsible as they should be.
