Since mine will be an HPDE/nice weather car, I'm ditching the soft top and going with one of these.

Keep the sun off you at the track without the big blind spots of the factory soft top.

Fortunately I have a steady girlfriend at this point, so its not as crucial that I worry about what I drive as much now. However, if I do become single again, then yeah, I might need to sell the Miata.

QFT. OP have you driven one yet? If not, go for a rip and then ask yourself the same question...I think you'll find for 2.5k it's hard to beat that kind of fun.

I was on the fence about this too but picked one up for my winter beater this year and took it out to a lapping day in stock form. A bit slow but such a forgiving car, very good to learn with, and super easy to work on.

Space is a bit limited but I put in a hard top and got rid of soft top. Tons of room. That'll change once cage is in but either way very reliable DD.

Shoooot. Id dd a miata as a beater but then again, you may get clowned for driving one if your buds driving a boxster. See who is laughing last when his in the shop and your driving him bacK home. I would like to have an STO or even an 10th on my driveway.

It's not a "handsome" car like an E30 is, but if people around you know cars they'll compliment you for having one, not poke fun at it. On the other hand, if people around don't know a thing about cars other than miatas are geh; you can drop knowledge on them talking about how it's cheap fun, it's FR, 5-speed, light, etc.

Trust me, they'll shut up pretty quickly.

    Why not E30 vert?
I'll be the first to admit, the juxtaposition of those two automobiles would suggest some very questionable things.

I can't seem to find an E30 vert worth buying for that $2500 price range. It seems the going rate for an E30 vert in decent shape with a 5 speed is right around $3.5k. The question becomes do I really get $1k more value out of an E30 vert than I do a Miata. I can probably afford both, but I'd rather stick closer to $2.5k than $3.5k as I'd like to do some beach trips this summer and the extra $1k would help a lot in affording that.
