Scott Brady of Overland Journal drives the Defender 420 miles across the Namibian desert. 10 minutes, but a well done video, and really shows how the truck behaves.

1700+ lbs of payload, 300+ on the roof, 8000 lb towing, 11 1/2" of clearance.

I've often thought the Range Rover Classic would be a perfect truck if you could get rid of the electrical system and that damn injection system / engine management. Like - get a shell, gut it, and start over with a new 302 or Coyote or LS dropped in there.

With all the mods and swaps and stuff people are doing, I searched around and sure enough, people have been swapping in an LS motor - plenty of power, cleaner running, better mileage. And it's full circle GM since the Rover block is the Buick 215 from the 60s.

Plenty of room. It appears there are transfer case adapter plates out there.

Interesting how similar the basic RRC was to the original Bronco. I think the wheelbase is 100" and the Bronco was 92".

I love the original bare bones RR. Hose it out, very simple, manual trans, great design, a such a compliant, long travel suspension in contrast to the Bronco and Scout of the 70s.
