This new auto tech fails freshness test

The more automotive technology developments, the more it stays the same. For many bits of brand new car technology that come down the pipe, we discover that what is being applauded as “new” is in fact not brand new at all, but a marketing tactic. Here are five samples of new car tech that are so old, they're new. Will you be trying to purchase or sell a new or used Spokane WA Ford Escape? If this sounds like you, don’t go anywhere else before you look at auto Spokane.

    Miracle of button shifter

In 1913, automakers started using Vulcan electro-mechanical gear shifts in different automobiles, and lever-free shifting became popular in 1956 with Chrysler. Drivers could use buttons to shift at that point. Through 1964, Chrysler used that system and variations of it. The Touch button Ultramatic debuted in 1956 for Packard, and Ford offered a Teletouch system in some automobiles from 1957 to 1959. There were a ton of automobiles that had push buttons for shifting in the past, which is why the 2013 Lincoln MKZ automobile with the five-piece electronic push button is not so new.

Direct injection is not brand new

Since the 1920s, diesel engines have been using direct fuel injections. They were also utilized in the 1940s by Mercedes Benz and Bosch in the Nazi Luftwaffe engines. In 1955, the Mercedes-Benz 300-SL used direct injection also. The idea that direct injection is brand new is absurd considering its history. Even though the idea has been perfected in more recent years, the idea has been around for a long time.

    Push a button and go

Starting in the early 2000s, push button ignitions started to appear in luxury automobiles, and mid-market automobiles have started seeing them more recently. The Ford Escape and Nissan Altima is just a couple of the vehicles that are starting to get push buttons.

In the early 1900s, automobiles were started with drivers who cranked the motor up to speed. The crank would be a dangerous weapon pretty fast and could really hurt people. That is why Cadillac released an electric push start button in 1912. This proves the technology is not new.

New car technology that's old No. 4: Hybrid electric drive

Contrary to popular belief, the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight were not the first hybrids out there. Everyone thingks that hybrids did not start until 2000, but the truth is that they started in 1901 with Lohner-Porsche. The first hybrid did not really come out until 1906, but Lohner-Porsche produced the technology to use electric wheel-hub motors, batteries and electric generators in 1901.

For several years, engineers have been looking forward to the technology and incorporating it into other things. For instance, the Apollo program’s Lunar Rover used the technology modified by National Aeronautics and Space Administration in the 1960s.

Display higher up in the past

In order to help drivers stay away from taking their eyes off the road to look at speed and other gauges, BMW 5 Series has a full-color heads-up display on the windshield from Continental AG.

GM automobiles have been using monochrome Housing and Urban Development technology since 1988, starting with the Oldsmobile Cutlass supreme and also being used by Pontiac, Buick and Cadillac. Aircrafts and military have been using it also.

Getting the latest technology is simple at Brooklyn dealers where you can get auto approval for financing loans.

no kidding they test this stuff for years before it's released and usually it's just an improvement on what's already there. like push botton ignition. all they did was take away the action of putting a key in a hole and turning it, WOW! was it really that hard. 1 word technology.
