Since this card / pc worked fine with Vista then you can say the card/hardware is in working condition.... easy fix would be to put a usb nic and disable the on-board one.

Nope, and I just spent an hour on the phone with a friend who's been in tech support for 5 years. Nothing.

I think I'm going to cut my losses here (mainly just time), return the few parts I bought, and say hell with it. It's been 2 days fucking with this now, and it's just not worth it. I can put the money toward building a new system with all new parts that will blow whatever I do to this one out of the water. But thanks to everyone for all your help. :)

When Windows assignes a 169. ip it does it when it a) does not see a connection to your router/switch/dchp box and the tcp/ip in the OS isn't set to static ip for that interface.

So, it's not getting IP or it's not getting a connection (physical) and in the end not getting DHCP offer...

- Did the NIC work with Vista before you wiped it?

- Does the device manager show it's using a "Integrated Marvell 88E8056 Gigabit" driver as listed on the Acer page?

Does your router/switch show "link" on the port where the ethernet cable is connected to this pos acer?

No, I downloaded the driver to a USB and installed them on the offending machine.

No dice on that cmd line. ipconfig shows nothing but the same self assigned IP no matter what I do.

When turning on the pc it should have some text at the lower left hand side of the screen. It should instruct you on how to enter the bios. Once there you should have several options to choose from. You can edit your boot order. Run system diagnostics etc.

netsh winsock reset

then reboot and re-test network.

having re-read the thread- the currently installed ethernet drivers are the ones that windows sourced itself, mentioned in post 16? if above does not work- download drivers for the chipset (Marvell 88E8056) here: http://www.marvell.com/support/downloads/search.do and swap them over on a thumb drive.

What's your results from that?

Swapping hardware isn't going to solve your software issues. Network issue seems DHCP related, you could try going around that with manual IPs and subnet masks, etc. "invalid ip configuration win 7" gives lots of results on google with things to try.

I honestly think the best course of action here might be purchasing a new mobo with the correct socket type (AM2) and swapping this CPU, GPU, and RAM to the new mobo.

Yes you shouldn't have issues with command prompt in W7.

Also I am pretty sure it was already mentioned. But have you tried updating/upgrading the BIOS on the computer?

I am having trouble tracking down much information on you Mobo. But the general consensus from the AMD forums is that it will be very difficult to get a BIOS update and running with the newer components you have.
