When I came home from Virginia via the Auto-Train with a 91 318is, my wife was not pleased. As time passed and the 318is was refurbished and driven, so did her digs and sarcastic remarks, Until she barked, "If you spent half as much time with me as you do THAT car..." :hitler: To which I replied, "If you were half as much FUN..."
Point is this. If she has a problem with your car, she will most likely have problems with other aspects of you. Make your choices based on the man you are or the man she thinks you can be molded into.
By the way. I dumped the wife and drive the 318is with a great big ass smile since 2005. Plus, I got her a stable mate. A 76 2002. It IS a good life.Leave a comment:

Marry a reasonable woman.
As to the fat comment, yea I dunno about that. Skinny wife here, reasonable too.
If she tells me she doesn't want to buy something, it's because we really aren't in a position to buy it. This weekend I told her come tax time I am buying myself a new car, thinking a TDI Jetta. She is all for it, because it makes sense.
If your girl tries to keep you on lock down and won't let you do anything you want, then you are with the wrong woman.
Also it doesn't hurt to buy things you want for her. She's driving an 06 Saab 2.8T right now, I fucking love that car but it is "hers". She's happy, I drive it on the weekends, win win.Leave a comment:

Ban her from buying makeup and shopping, better yet eating out. If you can't have yours, she can't either.Leave a comment:

If my GF ever said I had to sell one of my cars, I'd kick her to the curb and she knows it and accepts it. Simple as that. ;)Leave a comment:

I can see why a girlfriend or wife would want it gone, but my beef is with parents.
I'm 22; on the right track with college paying my own tuition, reg/ins, bills, etc. and have no debt. If I want to plunge $3k into my car at any given moment, it is my right as a responsible and capable adult. The only reason I see for them is the control aspect; I can understand that when someone is 16 or 17, but I'm 22.. Pretty much on the verge of starting my career and moving out.
On the flip-side: I'm single and own an e30 and all my prospects all love my e30, so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones?Leave a comment:

I am going to pass on a few words of wisdom here.Married guys, can you explain this to me? How does it work that your wife can tell you what cars you can and cannot own, as an adult spending (presumably) your own money? I'm 18 so the concept of a girl telling me to get rid of a car is foreign to me. Only really had one girlfriend in my life, and there were times where I was whipped. But selling my beloved? I just couldn't imagine such a thing.
Happy Wife ............................ Happy Life
That said, I buy what I want when I want to, 10 bucks, 10k bucks does not matter long as the bills are paid and there is still $$$$$ in the bank after the purchase is made then she does not say much. She can do the same if she wants too, bigger purchases of course we will talk about and bounce it off the other 1st. Its not about one telling the other what to, if its like that then there is something fundamentally wrong in the relationshipLeave a comment:

Even though she hates my e30 with jealous rage, she'll take a ride over having to walk, anytime.Leave a comment:

This also ^^^^^ 100%I'm not married but i've been with my girl for 10 years so close enough.
but here's where you're off:
it's not my own money anymore. it's our money. money that goes to that vacation that she's dying to go on or the bathroom that needs to be remodeled or you've been spending too much time and money on that car. etc.
for me and my friends that are car oriented, the key is happy wife happy life. Keep them happy and occupied with whatever their interests are and they let us live our lives as we see fit. Also knowing that you're NEVER right helps. ;)Leave a comment:

This is why I am not ready for a joint bank account.
I already stop myself from buying the things I want.Leave a comment:

Speak for yourself. I've got 5 cars, 3 motorcycles and a skinny wife. I don't see a problem.Leave a comment:
