here's James May explaining the issue in an interview. It had to do with the Argentinians assuming the number plates on one of the cars was a slight towards the Falklands war.

my fav. is still when they're in the southern USA with their cars painted in a fashion suggesting that they are of homosexual persuation...the whole gang gets pretty much chased outta town lol

Lol I remember that episode.

They got chased out of Argentina over a license plate. They said it had something to do with a war they lost but top gear swears it was random and had no intentions of the plate causing controversy
