I know you won't believe this story, most of my friends don't anyway...

There is an elderly gentleman in my town, I'd say closer to 70 than 60 years old, who buyed facelift 320i new at late 80's, he keeps his car in garage and drives it 5-10 times a year. Every year he takes his car to MOT and oilchange/inspection to local dealer(I used to work there). His car has less than 10 000km(yes ten, not hundred)on clock.

Winters here are long and cold, this car has never seen snow and has never had winter tyres in it, the owner has OEM steelies, with nonused late 80's Nokian Hakkapelitas.

I happen to know where he lives and sometimes I just have to drive by, just see if garage door was open and I'd see this mint beaty.

Two years ago when I did the service to his car I asked if he'd liketo sell his car to me, he laughed to me and didn't bother to answer...

Oh and it's 2d bronzit with bottlecaps.

Once on a nice summer day I just happened to notice a silver E30 Mtech II.
Just coming from the car wash with all windows open + sunroof you know the drilll, slowed down for him to catch up.

We gave zee thumbs up, and he went his way.

Really gorgeous car with all red tails.

i was down in ocean city all last weekend, and i was pulling into a "Superfresh" grocery store with the wife and i heard this obnoxiously loud car behind me, and when i look in the mirror, it was a white E30 M3 with yellow low beams and no highs. he came roaring up to me and said "sweeet alpinas man, i saw you at the light back there and i had to follow you in here!" i said "they're fake" and he said "its ok man, theyre still fucking sweet"

he was probably 25 or so. the car was completely gutted out, no headliner or trim or door panels or anything. he said he was getting a full cage in a week. The car had an Alpha-N. He worked at Mr. M Car (Don fields) so i guess he seemed pretty legit.

Right after that i saw probably one of the dopest hatchies of my life. JDM everything, full cage, FMIC, the works. he gave me a thumbs up out the window too, which was cool.

There are two Alpina C2 2.5s around here that I see about once a year.

There is one E30 M3 that i see about once in a decade.

Other than that .... Oh, a dark green Touring. None others really, 'cept mine haha and the other owners that have taste. You know who you are and aren't.

Ok - mentally rewind back to 1990...

I'm 17, and two blocks away from me is this cute as hell MILF. She drove a black e30 m3 with BBS rims.

Of course I had my mint e21...not too shabby back in '91. I was in High School - one body style down was considered pimp - like being 17 and driving an e46 now - come one - you know the drill....

...After waxing it - I'd always get people asking me if it was the *new* BMW...

Anyways, I had just gotten a subscription to the BMWCCA - and had learned that bimmers always do the headlight flash to each other(a practice that I do when I see any ///M car - unless I'm in LA) - so I always did it to her. And she would do it back - what a kick ass chick - ....

Oh the socks I had to throw away cause of her....

There is a black early model 325i that that i see im my dorm parking lot all the time, i try to park next to it as much as possible, but i have no idea who drives it. It does have rear seat headrests and sport seats though.

There is also a white 318i, i dont see it as often but its in the same parking lot.

In another parking lot there is a silver eta that i see most days, dont know anything about it.

Now on the road I had my accident on there is a red e30 m3 that I see occasionally parked outside, the house it is at is the exact spot that I lost control at.

I think that with all of the time and money spent on my car, I could have bought a brand new 2007 325i. But it wouldn't be quite the same.

I don't think that it is ever cost effective to keep up an E30. But that is why we love them. It is the best way to spend every weekend in the warm months.

The mind set here is similar to that of any other car. Once it gets to the point where it gets to a certain age and milage and its no longer cost effective to keep maintaining it, you just drive it until the wheels fall off. Before I inherited my uncle's E30, he was pulling it behind his RV. He had 2 new cars so there was no point in him trying to maintain a car almost 20 years old.

There's an 'interesting' e30 that's almost always parked close to my street. It's had a for sale sign on it twice now, and removed twice. Diamantschwarz Metallic '90 Mtech 2 cabrio, 2.7i 185hp engine from the factory, 260km/h dash with 'mtech' logo inside (stock 325i dashes are 240km/h), BBS RS1 17s mounted, with 205s on the front and 225s on the rear.

If I didn't already do so much to my car, I would've snapped it up without thinking twice.

about 3 days after I picked up my bimmer I was at BK in my town and parked next to a white e30 cabrio. Saw it later in the day, too. But that's not at all why it stuck out in my head. It was beat to shit. It needed a completly new paint job, the soft top looked like it'd leak in the rain, the leather was cracked, the bumpers dented in various places..... It was sad.

Now I know at the end of the day it's still an e30 so it's still an amazing car, but dear god WHY would you let that happen?
