125gr .45? Thats light! search around the Para forum on m1911, might shed some light on the subject. If it was mine, I'd have probably already traded it for a G30! lol

Yeah I know about the compacts. The full size 1911s take a little more effort to carry.

Linus, on the grip angle and frame geometry of the Glock, it is intentionally designed that way. The purpose is to allow for a lower bore axis which naturally places the barrel more in line with the shooter's arm, allowing the arms to absorb more of the recoil, rather than the wrists, as well as come to point of aim much quicker than "traditional" setups.

As for reliability and the "weak chamber" issues, I shot numerous rounds (didn't keep count and it's been 4 years back) of Cor-Bon 165gr +P rounds through my G21 without a problem at all.

I have a para p14 limited that used to do the same thing. If you have the made in canada mags they have weak follower springs (para was trying to make thier own) Para went to meggar mags later and they work great also the stock slide spring is too heavy from factory. When I was at my gunsmith he had another para with same problems and had to change the feed ramp geometry on it. After those changes I can shoot all day no stovepipe etc.

i've owned my Glock 17 for 10+ years, and i have NEVER had a problem with it. while its not the most accurate hand gun i've shot, it is the most reliable. actually, i think the most accurate auto i have had was my Beretta 96 ( think Beretta 92 but chambered for .40)....come to think of it that was a really nice gun and i shouldn't have sold it.....as far as the HK vs Glock debate, i have to side with Gaston. BUT, i have put 15k+ rounds thru HK sub-guns( 1st FAST Co USMC), and they are the cats pajamas, but pistol to pistol i gotta stick with Gaston.

Well, I have to throw in again on this point of accuracy.

Pistols/handguns are by design made for close-up work, what with their short barrels and all. I have shot IPSC/IDPA style competitions and most of the targets are within 3-5yards with the furthest being 25yards out and I think those were mostly just for kicks.

I have shot very accurately with my Glock, out to 50 yards or so I've hit 2 liter coke bottles (filled with water which explode nicely on impact), just to do it.

I am going to have to try out the paper plate test at 100 yards and see how I do, but that's just a personal challenge. I have rifles that I will pick up for anything needed at that range.

Bottom line, if you can't hit a human size target at a range of 10-20 yards or less with ANY handgun, you're better off throwing the gun and doing a 180 and running.

AMEN Brother, remember a hand gun is for close quarters or a fall back if you happen to part with your long gun. The average pistol fight is around 10 feet. The 7 yard line on a pistol range is a perfect distance to practice. The 10 yard line is a bit challenging for just about anyone, including me. I have tried to shoot 50 yards at a pistol target. Its doable but not looking to score well.

As far as the reset on the trigger for double taps. My trigger has maybe 1/8" of travel so that the trigger is reset from previous round shot and all others that I have shot are very close to the same as well. The Walther P99's are just a bit longer travel but not much. And my 1911 even with the match tuned trigger in it travels more like a 1/4" to reset. I had an instructor for the Tn. State Trooper also explain this to me as the reason that alot of different forces use the Glocks for the quick reset and the reliability of them. I personally have shot probably close to 10,000 rounds total through several different Glocks and have never had an issue with them what so ever. On the other hand my 1911, about every 50-75 rounds run through it, the gun has to be field stripped and cleaned and oiled because it starts stove pipeing but I can litteraly shoot the glock 33 all day (500 or so rounds) and never fails once. That is why I choose it for my daily carry piece, one for reliablity and two because it is chambered in .357 sig(no one is getting up from it)
Shit, if your 1911 stovepipes you're either using whimp loads with the wrong recoil spring or it's seriously out of tune. I've fired hundreds of rounds in competition and practice, without cleaning, through my .45s and .38 Supers with nary a jam.

                      FWIW

I've seen with my own eyes a pre-WWII Colt Government model, unmodified (no polishing, throating, ramping, whatevering) not only feed, but run perfectly shooting semi-wadcutters out of GI issue "hardball only" magazines; in other words, based on "common 1911 knowledge" of today, it simply should not run; but it runs like a scalded cat. 1911s have gotten a bad rap after nearly 100 years of subcontractors, re-engineering, and just plain fiddlin; if its built like John Moses Browning intended, chances are good it will be just as reliable as any of todays wonderpistols. 1911Tuner (if you're on gun boards you've probably seen him), a virtual 1911 Rain Man, has a running challenge, pitting one of his stock mil-spec 1911s against anything, shot for shot, for both reliability and accuracy. Not a single plastic pistol has met the challenge, nor anything else for that matter.
