Word. But there are still places in the world that such a scenario is not the case. Like Japan for instance. There's really less than a handful of places you can fly a plane, and none of those airports are big enough to accommodate countless planes.... so bigger planes that carry twice the load while spreading its wingspan by a few feet makes it more worth it for double deckers.

It's a rare scenario, but its there.

Not arguing with anyone... but throwing that out there as well... which is why there is still some demand even for commercial double deckers.

That is where the new 747-8 comes in. A tried and true design with a lot of the technologies that are going into the 787, and it didn't take hundreds of millions of dollars in government subsidies to develop.

I'm very proud of Embraer as they are Brasilian and their planes are great products. They have been doing really well since getting into the 70 to 130 passenger market, becoming a potential rival even to Boeing and Airbus.

One thing that my buddy and I were discussing about the Embraer is that with the way the gas prices are going up, these smaller planes are probably more efficient. Smaller planes are probably better on gas and the probability of flying a plane that is half full is reduced.

But the A380 is garbage I'm sorry. They were not able to deliver for many flaws... they keep post-poning the delivery by 6 months many times, which proves that they need to keep fixing many things before the plane will ever be ready.

Which wont matter, as they are still 100 orders short of making any sort of profit on the plane. The EU will have to bail the company out (again) while bitching that Boeing got an unfair advantage from US military technology.

The plane itself is not needed. Boeing had already ruled out a full double decker airplane a long time ago. They were smart enough to forsee a a change from large capacity, long haul flights to small capacity, direct flights.

Oh really? If there is no need why is Boeing being asked by many ex-Airbus customers to make them full double decker 747s???? And Boeing is going to carry through with it.

There's many uses for it. Cargo and transport. The only problem is that the uses are specific to certain regions.

But usually they indicate on the ticket and/or reservation as to what type of plane you will be on. The last time I flew, I went on Delta and they indicated on the ticket that the plane was an Embraer 145. At the time if I knew what kind of plane this was, I would have held out and waited for a 757.

I'd say that this plane is about the size of a school bus- Maybe a bit smaller. It has a row of single seats on the left and a row of double seats on the right. I complained to the stewardess about the size of the plane and she told me that she works on commercial planes smaller than that one.

American has long since had Embraer in their fleet. It's funny you bring up the small size of the plane as the market shows everyone wants bigger regional jets. And with Boeing and Airbus launching replacements for their B737 and A320 by the end of the decade, you can bet Embraer is scrambling. It will be interesting..

I remember flying to New York once with Air Tran. They had just taken over ValuJet (known for their nose first into the Everglades just under a year earlier - no disrespect to those who suffered) It was a DC-9. Having that on my mind, I recall reading about their fleet on their site. It stated they had just purchased brand new 717's within the last few months which kind of put me at ease.
