So then where are the threads calling for the removal of the Hitler smiley and the "cops chasing the dark colored" smiley? What about the racist joke thread? What about Pasha's sig? What about the thread with all the pics of the black guy wading through the water in New Orleans with random objects, appearing to be looting them? What about the thread where Justin and I posed as terrorists threatening Matt's Fox hat? What about the pictures form way back of James' car while it was being worked on, and Derek and those guys drew little swastikas all over it?

No one seems to have a problem with those, but the picture of Osama being called a towelhead gets everyone all riled up.

I think all of those are inappropriate. Pasha's sig got a PM from me long ago too ( I think it was pasha, had a bus with a swastika on it). I don't, however, think the board needs to censor the people who are insensitive, and create too many rules on speech though. God knows I like all the porno being thrown up on "your favorite pics". As I commented before, I'll take the good and the bad (subjective to the end user as you point out), and will block users who really annoy me to preserve the internet as a free speech zone. That board functionality allows me to censor those who I want, not those who other people think are inappropriate.

I dont think the sigs as funny as others do, but I dont think its offensive. I used to live in Detroit, where there are tons of Chaldean, syrian, etc. So I "know" these kinds of people too. It doesnt get me the right to get all sissy about it.

If there were someone on here who is of arabic decent, and is offended, then it can raise the question I think. BUT thats only if that said person is to keep to themselves as far as any other racial issues or jokes come up.

I guess a simple way to sum it up... Your rights (to make jokes or anything) stop where another mans rights begin (to be offended). But if no one is of the decent or herritage, then who fucking cares?

This is the kind of double-standard crap I'm talking about. Everyone can laugh and joke and skirt the issue of racism or discrimination when it's funny to THEM. But as soon as something comes up that DOES manage to offend them (like OH MY GOD, MIDDLE EASTERN JOKES), it's a crusade against bigotry and a witch hunt against the poster.

I'm still not removing it or ordering Mudflaps to remove it. And until I hear otherwise from James or Matt, or the rest of the mod staff in unanimous agreement, that's how it will stay.

Ive been contemplating saying something for a while on this. Im a moderator and I say you change it. I mean if we ban Fanzotti, the absolute MINIMUM we can do is make him get rid of the sig. Just cuz most of you share his sentiments, doesnt mean its right. And being prejudiced doesnt neccessarlily have to equal our "war on terror".
