camshaft pulley and plastica are installed correctly, i fixed the rubber plugs but the timing belt is still rubbing something

no spacer for the camshaft and you did put the rubber plugs in incorrectly. Did you check the plugs on the other end of the head too? Is the camshaft pulley and the plastics inside that installed correctly?Just took another look, removed timing cover and cap, it wasn't the timimng belt smoking luckily, it was the 2 little rubber plugs of the head. For some reason my cam gear is rubbing them real bad. So the cam gear is too close to the head.
What would cause this? Is there supposed to be a spacer in between the cam gear and the cam? Cause it seens like a spacer would solve my problem.
Its not possible to have the camshaft in too far is it?
Edit: I have been thinking things over and i think i put the rubber plugs in backward with the excess on the outside of the head when it needs to be inside maybe?Leave a comment:

What he said^. At first i tried to do it by the book because when i pulled the camshaft at the junkyard i was cutting wires and kicking pats off that were in my way, i spent 2 hrs messing with the fan which according to the book had to come off, couldn't get the big bolt to crack open to allow the fan to spin off so i tried taking out the 4 smaller bolts which didn't work so i had to put them back on which is in a very tight area. Since i couldn't get the fan off with my tools i ended up removing the radiator for clearance, then i didn't have a torx for the cam gear/pulley so my friend ran back to his house and got his, i temporary lost my swivel for the ratched so i couldn't get at certain intake manifold bolts. Also i labled hoses and wires which when reasembling i realized was a waste of time becasue i knew where everything went anyway. Kinda funny though, in the junk yard with minimal tools and 95 degree heat i pulled the head in 3-4 hrs but at home in a garage at 70 degrees with lots of tools it took me 10. Also someone on here recomended leaving the the intake manifold and exaust headers on to save time when pulling the head so at first i tried it but it didn't work to well so i ended up taking off the manifold at the last minute. It was my first time removing and installing valvesprings. Yeah i guess i screwed up by trying to use the book and listening to someone on here.
also got to give a young r3ver some props, im only 17 and im doin all the work myself. I work at a shop so ive pulled engines and done a ton of external work but no internal. I fixed the top 2 rubber head plugs(?) so they aren'r rubbing anymore but something else is still rubbing real bad. I tried tightening the tension nut and that didn't help anything. sorry i don't have any pics at this time. Im up for any suggestions but im probably just gonna have to wait till the weekend and take alot of stuff off that i don't want to.Leave a comment:

yes, that bolt first bolts into the timing belt tensioner, then the cover goes on top with the alternator bracket and a 15mm nutt iirc. I'm with blunt on the replacement remarkLeave a comment:

whatever it is you better plan on replacing the belt again. i wouldnt trust it after its been smokin .. once it was installed did you hand crank the motor 2 revs to recheck timing marks??Leave a comment:

Hopefully it is just the timing cover that is rubbing, i backed off that 2 inch bolt but it didn't help. tonight after work im going to try to just take the timing cover off and run it.Leave a comment:

I've had something similiar to this.. it was the tensioner/alternator bolt (the 2" long one) that wasn't tight enough.. was about a 1 hour fix.
