I'm curious, is everybody insured 100k per bank or just 100k total?

I'm really stoked that chase picked them up... makes me a part of the 3rd largest bank in the world.

I would hardly classify this as a "rumor". The #'s speak for themselves.
    Who fucking called it?

So now wamu is up for sale.

This article is a nice summary for the next set of banks that might potentially merge/fail.

Sorry, missed that little gem in your post. Does your family own a bank?

ive received calls from a few people that work for Verizon wireless (with my wife) that prompted my actions and reasoning for this post. Wamu was a option to invest their 401k into. and to those that tracked their 401k on the regular to their dissapointment found out they lost a healthy amount of it. if this thread stirred people the wrong way, deal with it, dont worry about it, do whatever it is that gets you through your day. my point was to see if anyone else had misfortune also, and to bring the topic to a discussion.

if the best thing you can come up with is "the only bs on here is YOUR post" piss off, seriously, find something better to do.

to all the BS that was posted on the first page. this thread wasnt a panic "the sky is falling" "r3v is going to be linked to the next depression" type of thread. i just wanted to see if anyone else had heard the same or decided to take any action against it. but i guess since its not regarding anything political its not taken seriously
I'm staying with WAMU for now. I would say that there is a chance that WAMU will fall that is cause for concern. I'm probably going to look to US bank or chase manhattan in the future if this current trend continues. I don't leave much of my money with them other than checking so I'm not all that concerned.

Read the fine print. If a bank fails, the FDIC has up to 99 years to repay you.

Bank of America, US Bank, or a small local bank or credit union are all good options.
