I really don't understand why they don't just put chicken wire over the intake.

If it doesn't stop the birdies, at least it will dice them up nicely and "digest" them so that the turbines don't have to.

Supposedly a 777 can take a frozen turkey to the engine and still run fine.

    :O

^ and Airbus seams to have designed a plane with cool tricks.
    1) A ditch button that seals up all "fresh air" cavities.
    2) A little wind driven fan that pops out of the engine when an engine fails to keep the hydraulic pumps working.

Thank goodness the pilot and crew have to go through so much emergency training. It really paid of in this case.

The Pilot is a fuckin' stud.

Loses both engines and glides it to a smooth landing, on the water.

    0 injuries/deaths.

Had he touched a wingtip on the water, it would've cartwheeled and it would have ended badly.

from what I heard the pilot was also an experienced glider pilot. Bet he never thought that would help while he was on the clock!

I've been watching it on the news for the past few hours, it was an amzing feat by the pilot, the crew, and the occupants aboard. The father of one of my good friend's actually knew the pilot, apparently the pilot had some background in the Air Force as well. He definitely saved the day for everyine on board.

my friend has a condo facing the Hudson and saw it happened live - the plane landing, big splash, police boats etc... absolutely unbelievable that everyone is ok, the pilot and the crew deserve medals for bravery and professionalism

Please let's leave all of that bullshit out of this thread.
All the preliminary reports indicate it was nature and until the NTSB brings out its official reports lets leave the terrorists claims, albeit 'just jokes' out of it too.
