Okay, so even if there WERE two insurgents holding two weapons in the video like you claim there to be, that by no means justifies blowing the living shit out of everything and everyone in the area. Did you not understand a thing dk (who actually went through this training for real) explained? There are rules for engaging an enemy and rules for using force. Just like police are not allowed to shoot a child to death for littering, American soldiers are not allowed to blow up everything in sight because they thought they saw someone carrying a gun. This isn't Battlefield 2.

it's not an "interpretation"- army briefings are broken down for the lowest-common denominator, because everyone down to the dumbest guy in the company has to understand. they are very clear about what you can and can not do. (apparently i'd not make a good officer, because i'm doing a shitty job of making you understand what i comprehended easily.)

first: if i had fired on someone in violation of ROE, i'd be at fort leavenworth right now, just like lynndie england was- the only reason those chopper pilots aren't is because they're officers.

second: i deployed as a 21B- combat engineer. these days that's the same as being infantry. if you really need to see my DD-214, i'll black out the info the internet doesn't need to see (last name, SSN, etc) and prove it to you.

not that being a mechanic is any less dangerous... those guys catch mortars and sniper fire too, and they head outside the wire to do repairs on vehicles on FOBs, or on missions with the vehicle-recovery guys to determine whether a repair or tow should be done.
