I understand the criticisms of the mandate but it is necessary for universal health care. Health insurance companies would simply drop any sick people if they could but because of regulation they can't do that. This new regulation takes that a step further by saying that you are still entitled to insurance even if you have a pre-existing condition. This is part of that whole less people dieing thing that I was talking about. In order to prevent people from just waiting until they become sick before they get insurance, the mandate is needed but only to discourage the fuck wads that would abuse the system.

The government is not telling you which grocery store to shop at or which car to drive or even which health insurance plan to buy. They are simply saying that if you plan on using the health care system in this country at any point in your life, which everyone does eventually, then you need to pay for your costs over time in order to prevent abuse of the system and keep costs down for everyone. It is no different than a tax which is why it was upheld today by SCOTUS.

So go ahead, be a rebel and pay the fine instead of buying health insurance. When you get sick though, you better not buy insurance because then you're no different than the redneck welfare mother abusing emergency rooms and the same person that you so vocally criticize every day on this forum.

And this is where you fail sir. What is more basic than getting medical treatment when you are dieing?

Here ya go, I have this letter on my desk dated 2001 that I have framed from Blue Cross Blue Shield cancelling my policy when I was going though an illness that was later to be found cancer. I know all too well about big insurance companies and how they work. Ive worked my ass off trying to pay those medical bills. Later starting a business where I was able to hire multiple employees and now have group insurance though AVMed with a cancer rider policy though Colonial Life.

I stand by purpose and sometimes vote against what would help my personal situations based on purpose alone.

Yeah and this new system is designed to keep costs down which it will because more people will be paying into it.

But it has set a precedence for future "commerce" regulations/mandates/taxes.

Maybe you should stand by practicality and reality for once. Stubborn conformity to arbitrary "values" and "purpose" in the face of contradictory evidence isn't going to get you anywhere. Call me selfish, but I am ecstatic that I won't be denied insurance in the future. It will mean a better quality of life for me and my family and a better quality of life means happiness and motivation.

No it hasn't. The precedent has been there for a very long time, we call it taxation.

Taxation was never utilized to require one to purchase ANY product nor service, until today.

It was used to tax one upon the products or services they chose to purchase or partake in/of.

Ok so would you be happier then if there was a single payer system and everyone was just taxed? Would that make you happier?

This is a compromise between government and free market.
