Since California is the world's 8th largest economy, if it left the union the US would drop behind both China and Japan in terms of GDP... So not a good idea.

Texas would have a lot to gain and the US would have a lot to loose. California operates at a huge deficit year after year. California not so much so, they are costing us a lot of $$$.

The economy is humming along very well and the unemployment rate is continuing to drop.

The state government is broke because pre-2009 they had higher levels of spending that coincided with higher levels of revenues. When the recession hit, revenues plummeted.

No, that's not correct. California, like 48 other states, has a constitutional mandate to balance their budget. They do not operate in deficit. They also pay in to the Federal coffers far more than they take out. They actually make us a shitload of $$$.

no what happens is that California tends to be a kind of indictor of what the rest of country will go through from what i know the housing crisis, recession and job problems started here and then spread to the rest of country from what i understand if something major happens in California it will spread to the rest of you guys in a year or two so. ANd our economy is starting to pick up again from what i see

And the only reason most don't like California is the stupid smog regulations and its expensive to live here, i cant really imagine living any where else the good points massively outweigh the bad points for most that live in California

Well tectonic events are little different, I don't hate smog we think its stupid but Cali has so many cars on the road that I think if we didn't have smog the sky's over our major city's would pretty much be black

When I look at my paycheck and see how much Fed taxes are taken vs State taxes, the difference is considerable. If Calif was severed from the Union, and in turn the people of the state had to re-direct 1/2 of their Fed taxes to Calif, we would resolve a lot of our fiscal issues and fund programs which are being cut to the bone (read: school system).

Most folks in the rest of the country view us as "...in a world of our own." Great....let us be then :)
