The point was about a candidate and political/personal baggage and wishing our choices didn't have to drag themselves through their own mud. You also did not list any of his baggage. You retorted with something irrelevant to the first statement.

If you don't think a political candidate saying things like, "Going to prison makes you gay" is baggage, it shows you don't really have the necessary cognitive ability to rationally analyze the world around you and debate it.

No that is not baggage. It may or may not be correct, but it is not baggage.

Right on. Nice to find some common ground here on this page, even if it's about that.

I'll also agree with you there, on the bizarre "going to prison" comment; it's more an ignorant comment (which he later backtracked on), not Baggage. Maybe if he had a very long and publicly known history of saying things like this.

Political Baggage is definitely political or personal scandal, or a history of dishonesty like those two candidates had. It might also be very bad policy decisions.

I shook hands with Ben Carson when I was 8 years old and read his book back in the day.

          Nice guy.

I respect him as a physician, but he was out of place in politics.

I didn't like Trump but liked Hillary less.

Does anyone actually think Russia helped Trump win? lol

A $30mil investigation by a guy who has a lot of reasons to hate Trump did not find any evidence of criminal activity.

Seems way more likely that the investigation was false from the beginning and orchestrated by the power of the previous administration, which was my general thought from the beginning, despite, as I said, my general dislike for Trump.

My personal feelings about the President diminish compared to my desire to be buried underneath a giant pile of dirt with a 100 million other citizens under the result of a democratic socialist who robs humans of their natural rights.

'Tis the natural result of socialism, is it not? Laws for thee but not for me?

^and we already have that. Our leaders exempt from ACA (affordable care act), exempt from firearms laws (the scariest to let our leaders be exempt from), exempt from certain taxes etc. And of course the best, paying me back with my own money (Social Security), or in reality it drying up, but it sure is a good way to divert money into other failing government ventures!

Seriously, anyone that desires any socialist ideas has me squinting at them. I have a few at work, and they are always the worst entitled employees, usually not pushing themselves. At least CA is at will employer, easy enough to move along from them and find someone better.

I'm not sure what kind of fantasy land you live in but the Mueller investigation found lots of criminal activity, sent many people to jail, and has something like 14 other criminal cases open that will send many others to jail, all for breaking real laws. 'Collusion' was never a crime, no the President wasn't conspiring with Russia, but there's a lot of actual wrongdoing here that's not a hoax.

It's a damning picture of the Presidency, which is a complete embarrassment by everyone's account except for Fox News. There's arguably more on the Trump Administration than started impeachment on Nixon or Clinton.

              But does it really matter?

The Mueller Report was no waste of time, but it's no Holy Grail to jailing Trump either. It sure was pure Gold to a lot of powerful interests who got just what they wanted out of it:

              1. Corporate Media sure loved it because they could just be bombastic speculating about whatever and do no challenging reporting on all the other, far more critical issues actually going on. The Rachael Maddows of the world should retire permanently out of shame.

              2. The neoliberal/Hillary Clinton wing of the Democratic party sure loved it because it gave them cover from ever dealing with all the actual issues why they did a horrible job and lost that election. And ironically now they don't want to try to impeach Trump because they like running against him like this.

              3. Russia and any of our competitors on the world stage sure loved it because this was the desired result when they first started their pretty sophomoric phishing, hacking, and internet troll campaign. All this infighting, distraction, disarray, embarrassment-- we are way weaker because of it. Man, what a ROI for them!

              4. Trump gets what he wanted in the end out of this because it's spun to play to and boost his base for his own re-election, which his presidency is 95% about anyway.

... All the powerful people win! Yay. But who loses? Regular people like Us. Now, let's all come together and chant "USA! USA! USA!" or say the pledge to each other.

To clarify I meant, "not enough evidence of criminal activity to prosecute Trump specifically."

It was all a hoax from the beginning and most people involved knew it was a hoax, they were just trying to stall the administration and hoping something would turn up.

I am generally cynical and assume all politicians are corrupt liars who are primarily self-motivated and generally seeking power at whatever cost/expense. Trump is not really different although more of an egotistical blowhard than most.

However he was elected by the people of the US to be president and deserves the same general privileges and opportunities to enact the policies which the American people voted for as other presidents.

He has not been given that opportunity due to lying democrats who will do anything to stop him and a media who will not cover anything positive that happens and basically function as a propaganda arm of the Democratic party.

This is an injustice to the American people.

I'll also say that while Trump is not by any means a "role model" or whatever, everyone knew that going in, and he generally supports the idea of liking America. I also like America and would definitely say being an American is by far the best country/place in the world to practice my profession.

Also, in my particular fantasy land, I've been winning all my life and it has more to do with a general outlook on life rather than anything a politician does.

If someone thinks they are losing, they probably will lose, and it has more to do with the individual than the system. Living in the US anyone with median income can live a more luxurious/comfortable life than European royalty 500 years ago so any healthy US citizen who complains about their lot in life is probably just a loser in general.

I'd agree that the 'Russian Conspiracy with the Campaign' portion was basically a hoax, but this President, every President, needs to be held accountable for any underhanded shenanigans. The swamp is swampier, the lies are bigger and bolder, and there is some real shady shit going on. The Mueller investigation was justified, it found criminal actions and Russian meddling, but it got ballyhooed into something it wasn't by profiteers. The media was negligent to run with 'Russia Consspiracy' so loudly and that's solely because it was so easy and it sells papers/ads/clicks. I believe they actually love Trump-- as former CBS head Les Moonves famously said "Doesn't matter if he's bad for the Country, He's great for our Business."

                  ---

And, I'd agree 100%: we can't look to these Politicians to fix our most urgent problems. We need to work hard and do well despite Trump or the GOP or Hillary or whomever. But I think most of us just want a more level playing field. Maybe that starts when we get together and agree on one simple thing: right or left, get big money interests out of our politics. Let the people decide.

Really enjoyed this even-handed takedown of both the Democrats and Trump & the Mueller Report based on advice from George Washington's 1796 Farewell Address.

Just like Obama's last two years in office...Wouldn't even take up a hearing on his Supreme Court nominee. I'd say that the Democrats are just doing the same thing the Republicans were doing for Obama. McConnell came out and said it once they took the Senate back, that the Senate would do nothing more than obstruct any action by Obama, no matter what it was.

It's all fair game in politics, so to call it an injustice is a bit misguided. Additionally, the American people in the majority didn't vote for Trump, so it's hard to complain that he is being kept from doing the job that the majority of Americans wanted him to do. He never had a mandate to govern so what is happening is actually in line with what has happened to the other Presidents that didn't win a majority, the Congress flipped and they didn't do much after that. The argument that can be made is that in all cases in which the candidate won the Electoral College but not the majority of the popular vote they were all ineffectual Presidents. One could argue that GWBush had an effect, but it's generally felt that his effect on the US was a negative given the wars fought and the economic disaster that hit full stride as he was leaving office.

                        John Quincy Adams
                        Rutherford B Hayes
                        Benjamin Harrison
                        George W Bush
                        Donald Trump

All one term presidents except for GWBush and obviously we'll see about Trump.

I feel like the Democrats should ingest a satchel of Richards at this point. And I don't like Trump.

But I'm so sick of the blatant hypocrisy of, "Everyone must accept the results of the election, investigation, etc.................wait wait wait..............it didn't confirm our narrative so we are going to ignore it."

I feel like all politicians are that bitchy kid who changes the rules of the game every time they start to lose. The one who you would play with when no one else is home, but eventually you realize it’s better to just ignore and avoid.
