I made up a plate assembly that has four tapped holes to mount the transponder that I welded to the frame rail. I'm not at home where I can look at it, but I'd guess that I used piece of 2x1/8" mild steel strap about 1" longer than the transponder. I bent the ends of plate so as to have it standing a bit off the frame rail so the screws could poke through a bit w/o hitting the frame rail. Nothing fancy, just quick and dirty fabrication.

    Perfect! Thank you.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what hardware should one use to attach it to the frame rail? I don't want to use just randon screws I have laying around and have them vibrate loose.

I had the transponder mounted where the A/C reciver/dryer used to be in the old car. It turned out that wasn't a good location and the transponder wiring was almost severed in the incident that destroyed the car. And I had to use a sawzall to retrieve the transponder.

I used L brackets and mounted the transponder in the round whole where the AC dryer used to be. Picked up power from the coil. I riveted the transponder to the bracket then used sheet metal screws to attach it to the car. This lets me easily swap it back and forth from the Spec E30 to the lemons car.

It looks a little like an E30 M3 but it isn't.

It started life as a 325i. We pulled the M20 in favor of a turbo M42.

The car has Eurostop USA E30 Evo R Widebody Kit with a the E46 M3 style front bumper.

We went with the widebody kit to provide better clearance for our rear tires (245's on 17x9 wheels).

    I don't think that is an M3...

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid a vulnerable location like that. Since it's TT, the forward location shouldn't matter. This is a budget build, this transponder cost 60% of what I paid for the car :)
