That engine you have there looks pretty old and probably needs to be opened up and gone through.
You would need a 4 barrel manifold, carb (properly setup for drift with anti-slosh baffling, jet extenders, etc), headers and custom exhaust fab as the headers will be reversed facing forward. You have no transmission. Too get the front end weight down you would need aluminum cylinder heads. You also need to go with the short nosed water pump.
All in all it adds up fast, in the end it would be cool but most likely not worth the time and money.
I say move on, strip the chassis to the bone, cage it, S52 with a 3:46 and a stiff tight ass suspension, all solid bushings, hydro e-brake....
You will drift like a king, guaranfuckinteed

302 upgrades and unlimited plus it carburated so way less electronical shit to wire. But I would rather keep it all BMW.

To each their own, I prefer torque over a gutless little inlines 6. A LOT cheap to modify and make power too. Peak torque at 2600rpm doesn't hurt either.

Its still an seriously old construction with a hopeless short rpm register. I mean, pushrods..
If you put the money to get it in an E30 and wizard some hp out of it on the M20 you probably already got, i know what id choose..

Another convert :) Hint, ordering a pan from him will be a lot less of a pain in the ass.

If I do go with the 302 I'll order the motor mounts and trans brace, but fab up my own oil pan.

Drift Car Dreams?
So I have been entertaining the idea of making a e30 drift car on the search for a locally blown up e30. Never done anything like this so plenty of thinking has already been done. Just not sure what to motor wise. first thought was a m50 swap or an m20 stroker. But I happen to have this rebuilt 302 sitting in the barn. I've seen a few e30s on the world wide web with ford v8s but is better then an m50? I would like to use the 302 just because I already have it but I don't want to be disappointed.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Tags: None
