I've read those too, but so far I'm happy. I had a problem with one wheel losing air when it was first mounted, but it turned out the tire guy had punctured the silicon seal where the 3 pieces come together. Other than that, they seem to be working well. I'll keep checking them out, but after 5 events I haven't seen any of the problems people are complaining about.

In 04' or 05' I purchased a set of 17x11's that were 20.1 lbs and 17x12's that were 20.3lbs. That was on a small UPS scale.

I replaced a set of Fikse FM5's in 17x11 that were 18.9. That's not a big swing in weight considering that the Fikse's were the lightest 3 piece wheels in that size I had seen/weighed. And that the Fikse's were DOUBLE the price of the CCW's.

So not the lightest. But when 3 piece custom built wheels are needed they aren't that heavy, and they are rock solid durable.

Price was 2200 for 4 18x10's. These wheels are pretty light forged 3 piece wheels that are bullet proof.
Not knocking on CCW, they do make great wheels and John is super helpful, but don't confuse CCW 3-piece wheels with "lightweight". They tend to be in the 20+ pound range for 17" and 18" wheels.

We weigh every wheel and wheel/tire that comes through our shop and the differences between models & brands for the same size can be staggering. Our 18x10" D-Force cast wheels are 18.7 pounds, which is 4-5 pounds lighter than an equivalent CCW.

And don't believe everything you ready when it comes to posted wheel weights. Measure them yourself. People that buy expensive wheels tend to bench race them down to unbelievable weights. I've seen numbers quoted that are less than half of reality. Even the big wal-mart-type tire reseller websites can have some fudged numbers. If you care about the weight get the seller to guarantee them within 10% of their claims. If they are too heavy - send 'em back. I've done it more than once.

One set of 3-piece CCW Classics we bought (17x9.5") weighed over 20.5 pounds each. Our 17x11s weigh more than 22 pounds each.

That said, whenever we need custom wheels we're still going to get them from CCW. Still the strongest, best option for custom stuff bigger than 15" diameter.

I promised an update a while ago. I got 15x10 Keizers with a 5" backspacing in less than 3 weeks. I've been running them for at least 5 events now, and I'm happy. They weigh in at about 12 lbs each, and were 1700 for the set. The wheels clear the strut, but with the 275s on them I have to run an 8mm spacer in front, but no clearance problems in the rear.

Probably the best shot I have of the wheels right now:

There really aren't any tires that are 17" that are a good fit for both a 10 or 11" wide wheel and an E30.

    Bringing back an old thread.

Steve K. Thanks for that link do Jongbeloed racing have an email address?

What are some good wheel options in 17X10, 17X11, 18X10, and 18X11? apart from Jongbeloed racing and Kodiak?

this will still keep me in STS class. do you have videos of your e30 auto-xing? also, do you have a URL of your STS class e30 setup? I'd like to review what you have and maybe mimic it, well, I'm trying out different setups to see what works well, but if someone already has prior knowledge/experience and it works well, then I'd like to learn more about it. I appreciate it, sir.
Or you could buy my SSR comps, 16 x 7 ~11lbs, run a 215/45/16 RT-615 or R1R in 225/45/16 when they come out.

i run Jongbloed Racing wheels. 15x10 at 15lb. The price is similar to Kodiak but the company is local to me in Morgan Hill, CA. His turn around is about 4-6 weeks and customer service is great! the wheels are custom and made to your spec.

I would definitely be interested in a conversion spacer that allows you to mount Miata/Mini wheels with their centerbore and be hubcentric with the right offset for the e30. I would definitely buy a set.

I am distrustful of all wheelweights I see posted online. I only tend to believe what I can test myself, measure, and prove with pictures. Every time I rely on internet numbers they end up being wrong. Even online tire reseller's numbers tend to be optimistic, sometimes by a lot. Its a conspiracy man! ;) I have always been one to "question everything" and we use multiple digital scales (ie: lie detectors) to verify the data we post. Dynos and scales... love these tools for the truth they can bring to interweb arguments.

Just an update on the 16x7" wheels I posted about for our STS E30, as I just snapped some pics with the new OZs mounted:

This is with our 5mm spacers at each corner.

It could use 10-15mm spacers and "look better". When we make production 4x100 bolt circle E30 BMW wheel spacers in 10mm and 15mm thicknesses we'll test them with these. We might even make up some custom wheel spacers that convert a BMW hub size to the more popular Miata wheel hub bore (what these particular wheels are made to) so they are truly hubcentric. Vorshlag 75mm wheel studs, lug nuts and 5mm spacers. 205/45/16 Bridgestone RE01Rs (thanks Bridgestone!)

Several more pictures located here. Some set-up info here.

We've been using 15x7 and 16x7 wheels Jack at Elephant sold us. Now I see he's working on a lightweight 15x7, 15x7.5 and 15x8", so there's more we might need to try! :D

E30 Racer was running my 18x10 wheels before I bought them from him. now runs on 15x10s. We held the tires up to each other, were nearly identical. He could ellaberate on pros/cons as far as his results.

+1 to this! The 275/35/15 Hoosier is earth shattering for so many classes... everyone is ditching their 18x10s (and 285/30/18 tires) and going to the this new 15" WunderTire.... if 15" wheels can fit over their rotors.

We just ditched the 18x10/285 combo for our E36 and went back to our 17x10/17x11 combination with 275s. 17" race tires are so much cheaper than 18" tires... we spent 70% less to get 17" tires vs 18" V710s.
