Same guy. His "other bmw" is an E39 540i/6 Msport.

He's got some...inaccuracies in the ad. If anyone is interested in the car, I can give a lot more detail about it, he hasn't driven it much if at all according to the mileage.

Nope, the head was rebuilt before I bought it. I think the oil burning is a rings issue. It was burning a quart every 300ish miles at the end. Sometimes it'd get 1000mi, sometimes 300mi. Made no sense.

The way to check the rings is to do a compression test, then pour some oil into the cylinders, then do another compression test. If the numbers rise, you have a ring issue.

That has been on CL for ever and ever and ever... If it hasn't sold, there must be a reason...
