Have you seen the entire 2011 lineup? The outback looks like a kayak up front and who knows what in the back. Impreza is just a daewoo lanos, WRX/STI just reminds me of bondo-special.

I like turbos and their awd system, H engines are neat, they are priced resonably for what you get....but man are they ugly for me.

Well, yea, the current models are all hideous.

If all subarus had 2 more cylinders and weren't fugly then I would be all over them. Maybe a 2.5 RS with an EZ30R.....

True, but paying 1k more for a car with service history and recent service is worth it to some people. Heck, I have been finding a ton of one-owner cars for my mother as well. The shear volume of subarus is crazy.

Yeah - This thread actualy has me thinking about a simply suby beater.

There are many more cars here to choose from, but IMHO prices are better elsewhere.

I read that they are all interference if you are looking for 96+. They change was a rather long time ago. Just do searching. It is not hard to find one that just had the timing belt and head gaskets done. My mother is in the process on buying one and trust me, there are thousands to pick from.

i saw several solid looking ~120k miles subaru wagons, for around 3-5k

this seems pretty possible. are these things generally bombproof up to around 200k ?? what major problems will i need to address if i get one with over 100k miles on it?

Timing belt.

Yup. If you get a 2.5L car, make sure its head gaskets are in good shape. A PPI from a subaru shop will know how to determine if they're good or not, so it's well worth the money IMO.

The 2.5 head gaskets are also far less likely to blow if you properly warm the car up before romping on it (<3000rpm for 5+ mins till temp gauge reads warm). Or get a 2.2 and not worry about it.

If I remember right, the motor is non-interference, so a TBelt snap won't really wreck your day. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember.
