Chips are definitely different due to S50 vs M50 cams. ECU is the same.

They are.

I bet the ECUs are different though, there has got to be a different tune on an S50 ECU.

ECUs are identical, chip *might* be different but either chip will work with either motor. You want a red-label 413 as that is non-ews. If you buy an EWS ECU you usually have to cut some wires or get an EWS delete chip from Turner

I'm telling you, the hardest part of an E30 engine swap is getting the hood off and back on again. The rest is cake, time consuming cake, but cake nonetheless. :)

Well, buying E28s generates revenue for me, so in theory that would help me buy this S50, problem is, I need to generate revenue to pay off the 540. When the (E39) 528i sells, that will pay most of the 540, and one of my E28s should pay for the rest (in theory).

There is no S50US harness, there is no S50US head, there is no S50US ECU... it's all M50 stuff that has simply applied to a slightly different bottom end.

This. The S50 is a 3L M50 with better cams and a different tune. That's it. The S52 is, again, a 3.2L M52 with better cams and a different tune.

The differences crop up when you talk about 3/3.2L S50 Euro or S54s.

I thought this was common knowledge at this point.
