Trunk floors are optional!
I was probably going to be there in the morning and stay for a half day or so.

I get off work at 12:30. Was thinking about heading out for the last 2 hours. The question is do I take the car with no brakes or the one with a separated trunk floor. Or the E30, which also has no brakes!Leave a comment:

Customer appreciation day was rescheduled to Sunday 1/6 as I'm sure most of you saw. I am planning on heading out for a few laps. Anyone else going?Leave a comment:

man, these videos are really helping me. Can't wait to get out there again with everyone!Leave a comment:

They only have 6 or 7 heat cycles on them, so I could probably get them flipped and run them for another day or two. The fact that they've been out in the freezing weather for the last couple weeks probably isn't doing them any good either...
I'm planning on running larger tires next year anyways, so I'll probably just use these for testing/shakedown.
Eric: I import and trim the videos with GoPro Cineform, with it set to high quality for both import and export, then upload it to YouTube. It seems to automatically add that option once they are uploaded. I used to record in 720p but the quality is nicer in 1080. Now I want a GoPro 3 so that I can do 1080/60fps.Leave a comment:

I thought that it was the lap before too, but when I compared the video timing to the lap timing it that's what I came up with. I'll fix it when I get back in town because I want to compare the actual lines.
To overlay the video in an iPhone is complicated, but it can be done. It's much easier on the iPad. This might have been fixed with the new version of Harry's Lap Timer (I don't know because I didn't update it on my phone).
Export the vid from iMovie as close as you can to the lap length. It seems like the timing point for the lap timer is just past the checkered line. I add a little length to the end of the video for length.
To import the video go to the lap list in Harry's Lap Timer. Click edit. A tab will pop up that says add video. The old version I had would only let you select video from your camera roll. On the iPad, the updated version let's me take it from a synced folder through iTunes.
To get the vid into you phone sync your phone and go into iTunes and click the Photo tab on your iPhone's iTunes sync page. Make a new folder containing the video and sync it.
Now it's in your iPhone. If the current version of Harry's Lap Timer lets you add video from this folder it will appear as an option under add video in the edit page of the lap you want to sync.
If it doesn't there is a trick. Download an app called Splice on your iPhone. Open it an create an new project with the video from your synced folder. Don't change anything. Just export the movie out of Splice as a new project and it will now be in your camera roll. From there it should appear as an option in Harry's Lap Timer when you try to add it.
Good luck! It took me hours of banging my head against the wall last year to figure that shit out!Leave a comment:

Cool vid alex! How did you get the harry's lap time data onto the video? I also use iMovie to cut/edit vids.
Also, in my helmet cam vid, you can see that slow audi at the beginning of my fastest lap, which I come up on at the end of your vid, so I think you posted my second fastest lap. No worries though, it's still cool to watch!
Chris - how do you post 1080p vids? I record in 1080p and import them without any loss. When I upload the vid, it says I can do 1080p, but then that option goes away when the vid is actually uploaded and I'm trying to select qualities... wierd.Leave a comment:

One more, from my first session out. Back tires start to get warm after the 7:00 mark and the tighter corners ( T-6, T-8 ) start to get entertaining. Lots of opposite lock.

A quick video from my car, working on trimming and uploading a better one. I purposely followed my buddy Adam (black M3) for a lap so he could have some video of his car from outside.

Videos are very helpful. I still haven't seen mine from euroberge to see if it turned out. I'm eager to compare it to people who actually know the racing line.Leave a comment:

Eric is markedly faster through T5, T6, T8, ad T11. I'm apexing a little too late through the slower turns and taking thie DE line on the exit.Leave a comment:

Thanks for posting this Alex - very unique and informative way to see a "side-by-side" lap (I wore out my pause/play button). Seems like T11 is one place Eric carried a lot more entry/exit speed.Leave a comment:

Done. Pretty cool watching our lines. I'll make another clip of the battle I had with the Nizmo 370Z and a few others later in the week. Watch it on full screen to see both screens.
Split screen comparing mine and a friend's laps at High Plains Raceway. My lap is on the main screen, my friend's lap is in the upper right (couldn't do a proper split screen due to iMovie limitations). I ran a 2:10.66, he ran a 2:10.30. I did this to compare our line's and Harry's Lap Timer data. The start timing of the clips and finish is off, but it's a great comparison of our lines. After riding with him I ran a 2:10.45 with some errors. I think I've got a 2:08 in me and he is capable of a low 2:xx with more time in the car. Car specs below:
2002 BMW M Coupe, S54, 3:46LSD, KW V3's, Swapped Strut Hats = -3.5 degrees Camber, IE Green Subframe Bushings, Sport Mode Enabled, DSC Off, Momo Mod Drift Steering Wheel, Motorsport Euro Floating Front Rotors, Spent Hawk HP+ Pads, Dunlop Star Specs, Harry's Lap Timer Pro v16.6.2 on iPad Mini, Emprum external GPS.Leave a comment:

Dude, it was awesome! I've been riding high all ever since. It was super productive to ride with you in my car. I went out after that and pulled a 2:10:45 with going easy on the brakes and blowing the exit of 6. I really wanted to get a sub 2:10, but took the gas down to the wire. I ran out in May, so I knew better than to push it one more lap. It was so frustrating to leave then.
Today the M Coupe caught my eye as I was walking in from a parking lot and I ended up staring at it for 5 mins. I need to just accept that it wants nothing more than to murder me on the track and drive that bitch. I think there is a 2:08 in it with me behind the wheel. I bet you could get it down to a 2:05 with a couple sessions under your belt.
The telemetry revealed some pretty cool comparisons. I'm working on putting a split screen of our laps together.
Come on, get one :twisted:Leave a comment:
